So, I'm thinking of downloading an IRC client.

My requirements are: it must be free. Forever and ever.

Any suggestions?

I've tended to use mIRC when I need a full-featured IRC client. Otherwise, Pidgin's (formerly gAIM) IRC client has been good enough for me.

I've been thinking ... not Pidgin. Or Trillian. I'd like an IRC client that is just that, not AIM and Yahoo and everything else tacked on. So I'll check out mIRC!

Got it. Pidgin isn't really meant to do IRC, but the convenience of not having two programs open usually outweighs that for me.
