Caitlin, my daughter, is bothered that they, the students, have been lied to as much as the parents. Had the truth been told in the beginning this might not have escalated so much.

I have mixed opinions about this story :/

While I personally think its unfair for everyone to be judging this teacher as dangerous (he's obviously not crazy or dangerous to the kids, he's been evaluated by professionals and is deemed fit to work) I understand the parent's worry in this situation, especially if they werent told anything by the school. I imagine I'd be scared and worried too if I had a child at that school, but its also unfair how the media is painting this teacher in a bad light.

Why do I get the feeling that this has all been blown out of proportion, just because the school didnt inform the parents in the first place? If the school had done their job properly I'm sure that there wouldnt be angry parents calling for a (probably) respectable teacher's removal. But then again I dont know that for sure because I dont have a kid who goes there...

You have some points, and I have made it clear that my beef is with the school board, the author of the misleading letter and everyone who took part in the deception of the parents. I've had three children in that school. Caitlin is the youngest and the last. She's also the only one to have Mr. Grider. In the 8 years I've had kids in that school I never heard anything like this and nothing about Mr. Grider.

Yes, the school board screwed up as well as the school. When a concerned parent calls with a legitimate question you never, ever, say "we can't tell you anything" and expect that answer to be considered satisfactory.

Yep, even more pissed now than I was before. We parents should have been given straight and *truthful* answers in the beginning.

*sigh*
stories like these are the reason I dred it when my kids start going to school.
Not saying the guy is unfit, but a little truth goes a long way.. everyone has stuff happen in their life. geez, if anything? give him a break from school. Better than some police officers following him around, plus he wouldn't have to look like some crazy dolt.

I mean, shouldn't it be illegal to withhold information like that? O.o It could have been that the guy was being stalked by a mass murderer!! wah wah!!
ahahahaha

Well...there are HIPPA violations to be considered when revealing information, but the catch here is that parents were told *nothing* when we asked about the appearance of the police officer. They (the school board and their liaison) made it all worse by making it seem like they were hiding something. They were also very nasty and callous in their dismissal of parents' concern ( ... )

no kiddin... I would throw the cash out for private school when the time comes, but the $80 a month for preschool is harsh itself *sigh*
