Comment on Elementary 2012

So Americans decided to make a show about Sherlock Holmes....
What a surprise considering the success of BBC's Sherlock and the current movie franchise.

In general, my thoughts echo those said here:

I'll add a few thing more:
I don't mind another take. Especially ( Read more... )

Looks like a cross between House & Monk...

That said, I do love LL & that actor plays a good crazy. I'll give it a try.

Fond of LL myself, but I'll wait for impressions on the first few episodes before I gave it a look.

John Watson in *any* incarnation freaking out at the sight of blood? so they're not only characterising badly, they're pandering to worn out stereotypes. awesome. I know what I'm not going to be watching.

y'know, sometimes I think men forget that women are the ones who give birth. and deal with a monthly cycle that is all about... wait for it... omg, blood. Heyer got it right in Sprig Muslin: the guy's the one who faints after someone gets shot. the girl's the one who makes sure no one dies.

re Sherlock: they're supposed to start filming in spring 2013. Cumberbatch and Freeman are both busy with projects until then. so, probably, 2014 for season 3. we can hope.

Spring of 2013? That's nice to hear, I know 2013 was thrown around but nothing specific.
I am looking forward to seeing Benedict in the new Star Trek movie though!

As for Joan Watson. Yeah, in the trailer i was appalled when I saw this. This was a brilliant chance for them to write John Watson and then give an actress a role and see how she can transform it into a female rendition.
But there she is 'OMG blood! Dead body!'.

Maybe it's too soon from Sherlock but I didn't like any of the takes on characters, and Lucy Liu - although I'm a fond of her, I didn't like what I saw here. Gender stereotypes pushing out character traits...
Existence of Joan might have been that one thing that sets them appart, however this just seems like yet another crime show with an eccentric lead.
Funny thing is, that description would never cross my mind for BBC's Sherlock.
