Hello my lovely people

Aug 19, 2013 20:31

How are you all? I've been having fun. I've not been well, but we'll ignore that until I inevitably end up whinging about it later on.

Semester 2 of 2nd year uni. Going well so far. I've been keeping up with work a much better work ethic than last semester. My god, I am ashamed of last semester more than I am of last year 2nd... But anyway, that's behind us now. I'm doing a lot again, but I'm finally getting really social. For the first time in college I'm making proper friends. Up until now I just haven't been bothered enough to spend time with people, mainly because it's 90% in drinking situations. But I've given that a proper go and yeah, friends, yah. (I know that makes me sound sad but I mean, I've made a heap of friends in the two years I've been in Brisbane, just not good friends. You know the sort.)

The band got back together and we played a huge set for Singapore's 48th birthday a couple weeks ago. My first proper gig so to speak, and my god it was fun! Doing another one in the Red Room (university bar). My sister's also staying for a few days between going to an acting camp so I might try and sneak her in since she's only 17.

Also got a job last week. Thought I'd never get one that pays as well as my last job back in Gladstone, but lo and behold! I did! It's almost the exact same payrate, but I get superannuation and things paid on it since it's my first proper job. (First one that doesn't pay cash in hand anyway.) So I don't have to worry about superannuation because there's an account all set up for me now. (I will worry about it later, when I'm not young and carefree.) Had a paid induction and before I've even had my first shift they've moved me up from 4 hours a week to 14! I have to get up earlier than usual since I start at 7am, but that's fine. Work until 2pm, and as it's at the eatery on campus, I don't have any weekend work! Ahhhhh, bliss.

Been really busy organising Soirée, my college's big event. It's a multicultural festival that we hold each year, and we see about 500 people both from colleges and outside uni come through. I'm working with another girl as food convener, and WOW. Have you ever tried to cater 10+ dishes and a bake stall for 500+ people?! And the event isn't even on until the 8th of September! All the planning, ordering, trial cooking (delicious but time-consuming). From the beginning of September, I'm going to be cooking non-stop... I don't have many assessments on during that time since I could choose when a lot of mine will be due, but I'm still going to be wiped out.

Side note: I am fairly Dutch (ahahah what?) and we're serving Dutch pancakes at this event. No, no one can spell or even pronounce poffertjes, and that's bugging me so I keep calling them that name. (To be honest, I didn't know until a few months ago what Dutch pancakes were. I knew poffertjes. Just like little ollieballentjes. I'm pretty sure I didn't spell that one right.) So tell your friends! It's p-o-f-f-e-r-t-j-e-s! "poff-er-tchers" Wiki IPA pɔfərtjəs. Broken down: poffer - pretty sure this is a bound morpheme , tje - small, s - what the F do you think the s stands for when in English, a language of Germanic descent, uses this letter as a plural marker? Yeah, s means MANY POFFERTJES! :D LINGUISTICS BITCHES!!!

I'm wiped out as it is now. Been sick again for a few weeks and still coughing, but I think I'm getting the fatigue that I had last semester back. Woke up with a gammy left leg as well, but that cleared itself up eventually. Now I keep getting a terrible stabbing sensation in my abdomen every now and then, and I felt like I couldn't quite breathe before. My back, for whatever number of reasons, has suddenly started being awfully painful and causing problems with my ribcage and other parts as well, so those symptoms all together with the amount of work I'm doing is NOT making me a happy chappy.

Oh, and I bought some lovely shoes that despite being good in the shop now do NOT fit AT ALL and can't be stretched or returned... I think I'm either a 7 1/4 (FFS) or my toe area is just really wide, because some size 7s I buy kill my toes, yet fit perfectly lengthways. In any case, there's an EXPENSIVE pair of shoes I now have to wear until they damned-well fit. I can't bare to sell them either; besides the light staining from wet newspaper (my first attempt at stretching them), they are too LOVELY.

Other than that it's just more whinging, haha. Saw  Elysium. Not bad for the same old story, quite good in fact. Intensely disliked one of the scenes with Kruger the ridiculously strong-accented South African man, and the script writer could have tried harder to not use just about every clichéd line EVER, but still quite good. Would watch it again without being bored. Also went to a Thai festival last night. Damned good food. Finally got Hamish out. One of the rare occasions in the past few months that we have gone out together. About time too because I could not spend another weekend in my room. Ugh. (When did I become so un-hermit-like?)

Right, that's all. Hope everyone here on LiveJournal is doing well. I really do hope you are. Even though I don't come on here much anymore I still think about you all. *hugs* I'm mainly on Tumblr, like I always mention now, so feel free to follow me on there. poison_orange_peak or some shitty name. :)
