Chapter 6
Day 9
“Hey Yul?”
“Hrm?”
They walked along the familiar street to Yuri’s home, nearing her driveway.
“Have you ever thought about contacts?”
Yuri shook her head.
“Oh. I’ve been meaning to tell you this. I think your eyes are really pretty.”
Yuri blushed deeply at the compliment, unsure of how to respond. Her pace became quicker as she felt suddenly embarrassed.
“Your old glasses obscured those pretty eyes. I’m glad I got to really see them.”
“T-Thank you.”
Yuri managed to accept the compliment as she almost dashed into her house.
She’s so good with words.

Day 10
“These are your assigned roles for the play.” Tiffany said as she passed out pieces of papers left and right to the students in the classroom.
Anything, but an actress role please.
Yuri opened up the slip of paper praying it wasn’t an on-stage role.
“What role did you get Yul?” Yoona asked as she leaned to her left, trying to take a peek at Yuri’s piece of paper.
“I’m one of the run crew members, but I don’t know what it means.”
“Oh, that means you help set the stage up. You also help set up for the next scenes.”
Relief washed through Yuri’s body. “Oh.”
“Hrm… Tiffany?” Yoona called out to the girl who was only a few feet away having finished giving out the slips of paper.
“Yes, Cinderella?”
“Who do you have as the costume designer?”
“Let me see. Clipboard, Jung.” Tiffany snapped her fingers as Jessica rolled her eyes at her.
The blonde handed the clipboard over to Tiffany. She scanned the first page, looking for an answer.
“Ah, there it is. Goo Hara is our costume designer.”
What Yoona said next, took Yuri by complete surprise.
“Do you think you could assign Yuri under her? Yuri’s a pretty talented designer.”
Yuri gasped, eyes staring at the girl next to her. “Huh?!”
Tiffany raised an eyebrow. “Really? Is that true?” Her gaze locked onto Yuri as she waited for an answer.
“Uh…”
Yuri’s heart raced from the sudden attention focused on her.
Jessica reached for her clipboard while trying to comfort Yuri. “Don’t be afraid. Tiffany doesn’t bite… hard.”
Yoona gave her a warm smile, showing her encouragement.
I can do this.
“I can show you some designs?” It came out nervously, but nevertheless those who needed to hear it did.
--
Yuri fumbled with her fingers anxiously as Tiffany flipped through the sketchbook. After a few dreadfully slow minutes, Tiffany set the sketchbook down with an expressionless face. Her next sentence came out surprisingly calmly.
“How dare you Kwon Yuri?”
Oh God, she hates it.
“Eh?”
Tiffany threw her hands in the air. “How dare you hide your talents from this production? I’m reassigning you to co-lead costume designing with Goo Hara.”
Jessica nodded as she scribbled onto her clipboard.
“What?”
Yuri was shocked at the response while Yoona had a cheeky grin on.
Tiffany clasped her hands together in excitement. “Your talents must be used! Don’t let them go to waste.”
Yoona nudged Yuri’s shoulder. “I told you, you had talent.”
A little sense of pride began to form inside of Yuri as she grinned at the compliments.
--
“Goo Hara, this is Kwon Yuri. She’ll be your new partner in costume designing.”
Tiffany quickly left the girls, off to talk to Jessica about the script.
Yuri wasn’t sure why, but Hara hesitated to shake her hand. She brushed off the uneasiness though when Hara started to talk about business.
“These are the designs we’ve been drafting so far.” Hara began to show Yuri her sketchbook. “The script isn’t finished yet so we’re trying not to get too far ahead.”
Yuri nodded as she began analyzing the designs. They were just simple drafts of what Cinderella would wear at home, the Prince’s attire, and the Fairy Godmother’s dress.
“It probably would be best to wait for the script and Tiffany’s direction for the scenes. There is one thing we can decide and work on for now though.”
“What’s that?”
“What Cinderella will wear to the ball. And with that said, I have a question for you.”
“Yes?”
“What color would fit Im Yoona best? You two seem to be close so it seems like a good idea to ask you.”
A color that would fit Yoona the best?
Yuri blinked thrice, giving the question a deep thought.
Red? Yellow? Blue?
“Yuri?”
“Sorry… Could you give me some time to think about it?”
Hara seemed taken aback by the request, but she obliged anyway.
A color for Yoona…

Day 11
It was lunch time and Yoona and Yuri were again accompanied by Jessica and Tiffany today. Tiffany gawked at Yoona as she watched her eat enough for two or three people.
“Are you a fat woman secretly trapped inside a young skinny girl’s soul?” Tiffany said it without shame.
Tiffany had meant it as a light tease and not as a hilarious joke, but Yuri seemed to think it was.
It was enough to send Yuri into a laughing fit. She started slapping the ground, the other hand covering her mouth as she laughed.
No one had seen or heard Yuri laugh like this, not even Yoona.
The sight of her sheer enjoyment because of the joke was enough to get everyone laughing, catching onto Yuri’s contagious laughter.
When Yuri’s stomach had settled, she managed to mutter a confession. “Tiffany, you’re funny.”
Tiffany shrugged with a wide smile.
Jessica decided to stomp on Tiffany’s parade of happiness, playfully knocking her fist lightly on Tiffany’s head. “You shouldn’t tell her things like that. Her ego will burst.”
Yoona’s phone rang and she excused herself from the group. As soon as she was out of hearing range, Tiffany’s eyes focused onto Yuri’s.
“So what’s the story between you two?”
“Story?”
“Tiffany wants to know how your friendship with Yoona started.” Jessica said this without once looking up from her clipboard.
Yuri thought back to that night she had run into Yoona. In her head, she laughed lightly at how that one event had basically started their friendship.
“Well… Yoona broke my glasses and she offered to act as my eyes until I get new ones.”
Tiffany waved her hand up at Yuri, testing her sight. “You must be really blind.”
Yuri nodded. “Nearly blind without my glasses.”
“Act as your eyes…” Jessica scribbled onto her clipboard. “What does that entail exactly?”
“I copy her notes in class. She walks me to and from school. Helps me move around school without running into things.”
“Woah.” Tiffany whistled. “I’d be tired if I had to walk that extra distance.”
The way Tiffany had said it had triggered Yuri’s thought process into guilt.
Oh no. How could I be so oblivious? Yoona must be exhausted from taking care of me. She walks me to and from school every day! And she has work for a few hours after that!
Yuri bit her lip, guilt starting to eat away at her as Jessica spoke up.
“Yoona’s strong unlike you, Hwang.”
“Yeah, well she has longer legs so essentially she walks less than I do.”
“Careful Hwang.” Jessica tapped her pencil on Tiffany’s head. “Your horrible logic will rub off onto Yuri.”
Suddenly, Yuri spoke up. “If…“
Both the blonde and brunette answered unanimously. “Yes?”
“If I wanted to show my appreciation, what would be the best way?”
“Say thank you.” It came out of Tiffany’s mouth so casually that Jessica threw her hand over the brunette’s mouth, blocking her from saying other smartass remarks even if she didn’t mean it that way.
“I’m going to translate for Tiffany. You should do something that the person loves.”
Something that she loves?
Yuri pondered it.
What does Yoona love?
She stared at the grass before her, various foods scattered.
Something that she loves?
The bell rung loudly and Yoona called out to them from a distance, waving her arm.
“Are you guys ready for class?”
--
What does Yoona love?
What color suits her best?
Yuri pondered these questions as she walked alongside Yoona from school.
“Yoona, what is something you love?”
Yoona was taken aback by the sudden curiosity, but she answered anyway.
“Something that I love?” She tapped her finger on her chin. “I love my dad!”
That’s not what I meant.
Yuri smiled though at the cute answer.
“Ah, speaking of my dad. It’s his birthday soon. I want to buy him a gift this year. Last year I was only able to give him a card.”
“What kind of gift?”
“I’m thinking about a tie. I’d like to stop by the mall tomorrow and find him one. Would you like to come help me find the perfect tie for him?”
Tomorrow is Saturday.
Yuri smiled. “I would like that.”
I would like to see you tomorrow.

Day 12
The first store they visited was a store specialized in ties. Yoona held up a white tie with red stripes over it and a blue tie with a darker shade of blue crisscrossing for Yuri to examine. Of course, Yoona did so only an arm’s length away from Yuri so Yuri could see the designs clearly.
“Yul, which one do you like better?”
“I like the blue one.”
“Me too.”
She paid for it and that was all they came to the mall for. As they walked past other stores, Yuri’s eyes became drawn to the different array of colors being displayed on the mannequins.
A color for Yoona… Pink? Purple? Green?
She shook her head at that thought and then realized that Yoona was not by her side. She turned around and saw the girl standing in front of a certain store. Backtracking, she curiously looked at what Yoona was star struck at.
A bear?
Yuri squinted her eyes through the glass window, reading the word with great difficulty, “Rilakkuma.”
Oh, that bear.
Yoona was pouting over the stuffed animal.
“Yoona?”
“Huh?” Yoona snapped out of her daze and turned to face Yuri.
“Do you like Rilakkuma?”
Yoona sighed and nodded. “I love Rilakkuma as much as I love food. Rilakkuma to me is what Mickey Mouse is to you.”
Food. Rilakkuma.
A light bulb lit up in Yuri’s head.
“Does that mean you want to buy this whole store out?”
Yoona nodded. “He’s just so cute and cuddly. But I promised not to buy anything besides necessities and my dad’s gift until I paid off my debt to you.”
Be more courageous. Show your thanks.
“Yoona?”
“Yes?”
“If it’s not too much to ask, could I make lunch for you?”
“Huh?” Yoona was confused at the sudden change of conversation.
“I’m not the best cook, but I would like to make school lunches for you.”
Yoona waved her hands up in the air, protesting the request. “Oh no, you don’t have to do that for me!”
Yuri bit her lip. “Please? As a thank you gift, for everything.”
“There really is no reason to say thank you since I was the one who did wrong. I should be responsible for my actions.” Yoona’s words became softer as she saw the crestfallen expression on Yuri’s face. “But you know what? If you would really like to do that, then I would love to eat your lunches.”
Yuri’s expression quickly changed to a wide grin as she nodded happily.
