Chapter 7
Day 13
It was Sunday and there was no reason for Yuri and Yoona to meet today. Yuri twirled her pencil as she stared at her latest design in her living room. She was sitting on the floor even though the couch was vacant. The floor was more comfortable for her anyways.
Why is this so hard?
Trying to pick the best color to suit Yoona was incredibly difficult for Yuri.
Yuri scribbled out her latest sketch for Yoona’s Cinderella dress for the ball.
I can’t even portray the outfit correctly without thinking of a color first.
Yuri leaned back into the couch, eyes closed.
Think. What color suits Yoona?
Mint? Coral? Magenta?
Yuri groaned. “Why are there so many colors in the world?”
I’ll just list the qualities she has.
She flipped to a blank page and started brainstorming.
“Yoona is… Yoona is friendly, patient, nice, pretty, encouraging, smart…”
The list went on and on and on. Yuri almost ripped out the page to crumple it into a ball.
“Is there a color for nearly perfect?”
Deciding the right color for Yoona was such a hard task.

Day 14
Deciding what to make Yoona for lunch was not a hard task.
The two of them sat together in their usual spot, accompanied again by Jessica and Tiffany. Yoona opened the lid of box, excited to see what Yuri had in store for her. She was not expecting the contents to be cute.
“Rilakkuma!” She squealed as she picked up the Rilakkuma-shaped rice ball.
Yuri smiled proudly at the reaction Yoona had shown.
Tiffany let out a dreamy sigh. “I wish my friend made me lunch…”
Jessica looked up from her clipboard and at Tiffany. “Do you want me to make you lunch?”
“Do you want me to die, Jung?”
“Touché, Hwang, touché.” Jessica smirked, as she picked up her sandwich to eat.
Realizing there was more in that little box of goodies, Yoona eyed the other contents. There were plenty of healthy foods such as fruits, yogurt, a salad, fish, etc. It was a perfectly balanced meal.
“Yul, this is awesome!”
“Yuri is a health nut and rubbing it off on Yoona.” Jessica called out as she scribbled the information down.
The other three girls laughed lightly at the comment as they began eating their lunches. Yoona however was very excited to try Yuri’s cooking. She scarfed everything down with inhumane speed.
“Please don’t choke.” Yuri spoke worriedly as she handed Yoona’s juice box to her.
Yoona grinned happily, rice stuck to her cheek.
Yuri let out a light laugh. “There’s rice on your cheek.”
Without a second thought, Yuri’s hand picked up a clean white napkin and reached over to clean it off for her. Yoona backed away, surprised by the intimate action.
“Bashful around Kwon Yuri sometimes.” Jessica commented as she scribbled it down.
“Am not!” Yoona denied as she wiped the rice off with the back of her hand, ears slightly burning.
Tiffany smiled mischievously as she witnessed this scene unfold.
As all of this happened, Yuri still had her hand held in the air, white napkin in tow. She looked from it and then to Yoona’s face. She repeated this a few times and then her eyes grew wide.
White.
It’s the perfect color for Yoona.

Day 15
It was the last class of the day. Due to the upcoming school festival, Mrs. Lee decided to change the study period to a preparation period for the play.
The classroom was silent as everyone was reading through the freshly written script. Of course, the Class President broke the silence with no trouble at all.
“Alright, who wrote this piece of crap?”
“You know who wrote it.” Jessica’s voice was calm and collective. “You assigned my role as screenwriter, Hwang.”
Tiffany tapped her fingers impatiently against the pulpit. “You expect me to work with this?”
“Quit being melodramatic and start the script practice. Let’s see you write something in less than a week better than this.”
“It sucks.”
“Beggars can’t be choosers.”
Tiffany smirked. “…Touché, Jung, touché.”
--
As the script practice went on, Yuri met with Hara to talk about ideas for the costume designs.
“This is one crazy story.” Hara murmured as she massaged her temples.
“Jessica said she wrote it tailoring it to the cast’s personalities.”
Hara laughed. “Why is Yoona the only normal one?”
Yuri couldn’t help, but agree. “The cast is a bit eccentric.”
The both of them glanced over at the corner of the room where the script practice was being held. Taeyeon was standing on one of the desks shouting out “fairy dust, fairy dust!”
Yuri and Hara locked eyes and chuckled at the amusing antics happening.
“Say, did you pick a color for Yoona?”
Yuri nodded feverishly. “I gave it a lot of a thought and decided on white.”
“Why white?”
How do I explain this perfectly?
“White because it’s a brilliantly bright color. When Yoona is around, it feels like the room has lit up… and when I think of white, I think of new beginnings. Yoona brought a new beginning to me. Does that make sense?”
Again, her words sounded better in her head, but came out jumbled in front of someone else.
Hara stared at her blankly for a moment, making her feel like she couldn’t get what she wanted across. But soon, Hara nodded.
“White, yes… White is a kind color, a color of purity and innocence. I think white is a fine color to suit Yoona.”
She understands.
Yuri broke into a wide smile. “I’m glad you understand.”
Inspired, they dove into the massive amount of work waiting for them.

Day 16
“How’s costume designing going?” Yoona asked as they ate lunch together, this time just the two of them.
“It’s going faster than I thought it would. How is practice?”
Yoona’s shoulders sulked slightly. “Not as fast as I would like.”
“Is it hard?”
Yoona nodded, pouting. “Growing up, I always told myself to be confident in everything I do. But acting is different for me. I become more nervous than I usually am.”
“I think it’s because you like it a lot.”
“Huh?”
Yuri searched for the words she was trying to express, eyebrows furrowing together.
“Because you like it a lot, you want to do your best and show everyone what you’ve done. So you become nervous.”
Slowly, Yoona’s nerves subsided as she let Yuri’s words soak in.
“Thank you, Yul. You’re getting better at expressing yourself.”
Yuri nodded in agreement.
“I think I am too.”

Day 17
Yoona cocked her head to one side as she stared quizzically at Jessica and Tiffany who were again sitting with them at lunch.
“I thought you guys only sat with us when you were doing ‘research.’”
Tiffany let out a faux gasp. “How dare you, Yoona? Do you not enjoy our company?”
Yoona grinned. “Of course I do. Just wanted to make sure a sequel to our class play wasn’t being written.”
“Is interested in a sequel.” Jessica commented as she scribbled onto her clipboard.
“Hey!” Yoona exclaimed.
Jessica smiled, setting aside her clipboard. “Just kidding.”
Everyone laughed.
I’m glad to have gotten the chance to know these three.
Yuri thought as the joke died down.
Her lonesome days really seemed to be over.

Day 18
“Is there anything you’re afraid of?” Yoona asked.
It was a strange topic for the morning walk to school, but Yuri brushed it off.
“Words?”
“You say it like you’re not even sure of it.” Yoona joked.
How to say this?
Yuri contemplated the topic at hand for a few moments.
“Before I met you, I was really afraid of words. I didn’t like how you could hurt someone with them. Now… it’s different.”
“I think it’s because you’re becoming better at expressing what you want to say.”
Yuri nodded, adding more. “I’m still offended by hurtful words though. But I want to do my best to understand why they’re saying such things.”
“Yul.” Yoona stopped walking then.
“Hrm?” Yuri stopped as well, facing Yoona.
“You’ve got a kind and understanding soul. You never blamed those people for the hurt they caused you, right? You blamed it on misunderstanding and words. That was really mature of you to do so at such a young age too.”
Yoona waited patiently for Yuri to find the right words to say in response.
“My brain works a little differently than most people. I think… sometimes, like me, people can’t express what they want to say or it comes out worse than they intended. I think that’s what happened a lot when I grew up around those bullies.”
“You’re a strong girl.” Yoona said it softly as she began walking again.
“Thank you…” She started walking with Yoona, then remembered how they had gotten onto that topic. “Why is fear on your mind?”
“Oh. It’s nothing.”
“Yoona.”
“You’ll laugh.”
“I won’t.”
“You will.”
This was new for Yuri. Yoona was being extremely hesitant and shy, eyes locked on the ground as they walked.
Yuri tugged on Yoona’s shirt. “Tell me?”
“I had a nightmare.”
“What was it about?”
Yoona inhaled deeply as they started to walk slower, almost near the school gates.
“It was pitch black and I was running in the streets, rain soaking me. The thunder was so loud and strong that I felt the ground shake beneath me. That’s all I remember. It’s silly, isn’t it?”
“Which one is scary to you?” Yuri asked, fingers still gripping onto her shirt as they walked. “Thunder or darkness?”
“Both. I had a small traumatizing experience when I was little. No one was home when the power went out at my house. I don’t know what it was, but this storm really wracked my nerves. I was waiting for my dad and mom to come home, either one as long as I could be held in their arms. So I waited by the window and watched the streets for them. Then I thought I saw something scary so I ran to my room. The storm was so loud and haunting that I hid in a closet, quivering with fear until my dad came home. He was frantic when he couldn’t find me. It’s silly that I’m still afraid, isn’t it? It was eons ago. I was like five or -”
“Yoona.”
“Yeah?”
“I didn’t laugh.”
This made Yoona chuckle lightly, her fear of looking silly in front of Yuri subsiding. “Yeah, you didn’t.”
Slowly, Yuri released her grip and turned on her heel to enter the school gate, back turned to Yoona. “Do you want to know what else I’m afraid of?”
“What?”
They were at the front gate now and Yuri was one step ahead.
“Losing you.”
When she said it, Yoona wished she could have seen her face so she could try to decipher the meaning behind those two words, but all she saw was Yuri’s turned back.
Those two words were enough to make her heart skip a beat. She stood still for a few seconds and managed to mutter under her breath, ears tinged with red.
“Now you’re really becoming better with your words.”
