Generally speaking, women don't want a "dominant" man. Many want what you want - a completely cooperative relationship where neither is dominant nor submissive. That being said, what you might interpret as being dominant isn't that but is simply confidence. Confidence turns a woman on. Based on my own experience and the few women I've talked to about this, many will not date a guy if he's insecure or doesn't have a decent amount of confidence (not to cross the line into douchebaggery and cockiness, of course). It's not a matter of being not sympathetic, but it's a matter of preserving our own sanity and energy. Constantly reassuring or solving problems and things like that are extremely draining, especially the reassuring part. I know this from experience.
