Not sure about this one. Based on what I'm reading about these parents, I wonder how they'd have reacted if their eldest wanted a buzz cut and a bunch of Tonka trucks? I'm guessing they'd have provided those things, but with some reluctance. Kids are incredibly sharp at understanding what will please their parents (it's one of only two tasks they have for most of their childhoods, the other one being Growing Up). Unless those parents can say honestly that they'd greet a request for a buzz cut with the same enthusiasm that they'd greet a request for three braids with pink ribbons, I'd say there's reason to believe that they're exerting the same pressures that your folks did, only in the opposite direction.
