"Flaws" are a social construct. Byah!

My dream for the world:

For everyone to look in the mirror every day and think, "Dang, I'd tap that." Or at least understand why other people would want to tap that. Because heck, I shouldn't be the only person who loves my body, "flaws" and all.

Seriously, think of how much happier and more selfless everyone would be if they stopped trying to ( Read more... )

I won't claim it's easy, or happens overnight, but I don't have a doubt in my mind that you can. It just takes a heck of a lot of willpower to be positive, among other things. One day you're going to wake up and realize how drop-dead gorgeous you are. And when that happens, give me a call, and we'll have a naked party. Okay, maybe we won't do that. But still. Um. I miss you.

Yup. You are a smart chica and I agree with everything you've just said. Haha. Seriously, I don't even know what else to add on, because it's just like - wisdom in a nutshell.

Actually, okay, I thought of something, based on what you were saying about beauty as not being one single look. I think that a lot of the time, the more critical we are of other people is reflected on how we view ourselves. Maybe if we started noticing the diverse beauty in everyone else more often - and this can be physical but also any other kind of beauty - we'd appreciate it in ourselves. Which also probably goes both ways, because the more I want to celebrate my own body, the more I want to jump celebrate everyone else's.

And, personally, since I know *I* appreciate other people's quirks and things they might consider "flaws," it makes me feel better about myself as well because I'm sure other people feel the same way about my own "flaws". :) It's a cycle!
