Actually, I *would* have a problem with my congressman being a scientologist. Hell, for all I know, there are already scientologists in the House of Representatives. But the moment Dianetics becomes a respected religious text as opposed to joke that is taken seriously only by a minute section of the lunatic fringe is the moment when it's time to take decisive measures by blowing up the San Andreas fault.

There are a lot of religious beliefs I have a problem with, Scientology being one of them. As an aside, though, I believe a good thing about a Scientologst congressman is that there would be that much more religious diversity in the House, which means it is that much less likely religiously-tinged laws will be passed.

Of course, my entire point was that the book an oath is taken on has to be important to the person taking the oath, not the electorate at large. I could have used something like The Book of Tao instead, but it's not radical enough, at least, not outside of the Bible Belt.
