Totally not related to your post, but I was playing Cranium last night with some friends, and the word "calliygian" came up. They wanted the definition, and I knew it from reading your bio page way back when. (And yes, I had to look it up.)

Cheers.

Well, it's always nice to know that I was good for something, even if it is silly knowledge. :-)

What does calliygian mean? I'm too lazy to look it up.

She actually misspelled it. "Callipygian" means "having well-shaped buttocks".

I could name you at least four or five professors that are (probably) voicing their opposition to this. Personally I couldn't give two @#$%'s about what the library means or doesn't mean to SMU. That school did and does nothing for me. I doubt that having the library will make *my* diploma any more valuable. Yes, I'm self-centered.

The only thing that bothers me *in the least* about the library is the fact that University Park cited "eminent domain" to allow SMU to kick out the residents of University Gardens. SMU is so eager to get this library that it's willing to hurt innocent people to get it. I can think of a few buildings *on campus* that could be bulldozed if they really need the space. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part. :-)

See, I didn't know about the eminent domain part of it... though I guess I shouldn't be surprised, given my dealings with financial aid. If they felt it was so important to get and could be such a boon to the university, they could have at least paid market price for the land.

Honestly, I agree with you and I couldn't care less about what it does for SMU (note that I said I'd probably dissuade any non-rich kid from going there; furthermore I'd definitely discourage my kids from even considering it), but I figured I'd comment anyway.
