Happy Independence Day India! Have you read Midnight's Children by Rushdie? I learned a lot from that book about the process of India's independence.

Beastmomma,

I am going to check out Midnight's Children-Salman Rushdie. Thank you for your recommendation. I usually don't read fiction except few classics but I will check this out.

Hi,

I would suggest reading other non-fiction books about India first and then fiction, so that the satire and context would be clearer. You could take up (1) India After Gandhi by Ramchandra Guha and (2) India--A Million Mutinies Now by VS Naipaul

Hello Paritosh,

Thank you for your recommendations. I actually read the reviews of India after Gandhi little while ago and it was fantastic. I never heard of your second one. I believe it will be good too as you took the time to recommend.
Could you tell me how you came to read my blog. If want to email me then my email id is tk525@nyu.edu

Thank you.
