I don't know the rules for things like this, but I'd recommend you actually phone or email someone at the NZ consulate to get firm answers to your questions.

Visas can take absolutely ages, so the quicker you pull finger, the better.

Have you checked out NZ job agencies online? That way you can assess what kind of payment you'll be able to get, and maybe by checking out rental prices you'll have a good idea of what your expenses will be.

NZ consulate - that's an idea... Will find their email address (better than speaking on the phone :p )

I'd registered with a job agency place a wee while ago but haven't heard anything for some time - will see if there's any more I can try.

Thanks! *squeezes the squirrel*

Ereneth pounced on me as I was writing that, and SQUEEZED me. I had no choice but to use my Devastating Nut Breath weapon, and my Claws of Doom.

If the date is too far ahead in advance you can't book/check on the system I think. MAS and SIA are good airlines :) But if you're having transit Singapore Changi Airport is waaaay better than KLIA (Malaysia) ;) Lots of things to do and see. Spa and movie theatre and shopping of course. Heh.
