That was a close one, Xander thinks.
He’d believed that recognizing the amulet, and filching it from Dawn without her knowledge, would head off unwanted trouble. Hadn’t realized she’d already … done whatever she did to summon Sweet.
Lucky the dancing demon bought Xander’s half-assed confession. Better him than Dawn, but eternity as a demon ‘queen’? Not a fun thought.
And no reason, after it was all over, to let everybody else keep thinking he’d really been so dumb. Making Dawn admit her blunder, that could have taught her a needed lesson.
… The gratitude in her eyes, though?
Worth it.
