I did have a question for you, about your publisher; do they accept submissions directly from writers, or would I need an agent?
I ask because I have a GLBT fiction book half-completed that I want to get back to. It's not Romance or Erotica although there is a love-story element to it, and I doubt I'd be able to pitch it to a straight market. (Lesbian pirates though, how awesome is that?)

Bella and Spinsters are always looking for good novels...and you don't need an agent. What you need to do is make sure you follow the submission guidelines...it needs to be completed, though, before they'll look at it. It doesn't need to have either Romance or Erotica, but be a damn good story...
Female Pirates?
Love it!
There's nothing like it out there since we're currently in a vampire stage.
have you done research on female pirates like Grace O'Malley?
Finish it up and then let's talk.

Oh man, research is the best part! Working at a bookstore is a good advantage to have there, as well as a coworker with her own library and a deep interest in maritime history, who doesn't mind extended lends of her books.
