I had the same experience with my peas...they quite suddenly took off.
I understand having tomatoes get out of control, since that's certainly happened to me before...just not this year.
Most of it is on terse_scribe's shoulders to get the sod removed from any new garden space, so I'll need to see what he's inspired to do tonight. Plus, I'm heading to a plant swap tomorrow, and might come home with a cherry tomato plant, since I don't know that any of the ones I have are cherries or grapes. If you ask me after tomorrow, I should know whether I'm in a position to take another plant.
