Well at least he knows who to stay away from, and maybe might be able to help some others at some point. But the company does sound like utter slime balls and someone should be able to go after them :(

Four more years. Sounds like he it likes it there...

He likes it very much. Unless things change drastically, I can see him staying there forever.

As far as teaching in Taiwan goes, you can quit your job on Monday morning and have a new one on Tuesday. The problem with leaving HESS is that if you break your contract, you owe them $600. A lot of the teachers are former starving students, so they don't have the $600.

That school has a really bad name amongst seasoned teachers in Taiwan, but nobody knows that until they arrive and are knee deep in it. I realize that everyone gets shafted here and there in life, but I just think it's completely despicable to bait young people and get them to relocate so far away in a place where they aren't able to communicate, then turn the tables on them and turn them into indentured slaves.

How have you been doing? You don't post in LJ so I am not able to stalk you anymore.

Sound like utter bastards who know they can get away with it because, hey, young broke people thousands of miles from home in a foreign culture where they can't speak the language. And it's their fault if they get thrown in jail for doing what they were advised to.

Currently in Paris for a couple of weeks having the locals not understand my crap French and helping doseybat with fetching, filing away and databasing grass specimens (some of which don't have the neatest handwriting...), making maps and tea and hopefully providing emotional support (she really doesn't seem to like it here by herself). Other then that we've moved into her parents as rent went up in our old place and we were only kindof but not really affording before the increase. House and rental prices in London are silly but we'll ( ... )
