Call me Manuel. Manuel Labour

It all started with a new fence. That inspired me to transform the backyard and give it some love for a change. It has been a neglected mess for years on end and I haven't cared. Every day for the past week and a half minus the weekends, I got out there at about 6:30 am and did stuff and things for six to eight hours without a break which caused ( Read more... )

Lovely, Linda. I especially like your sense of colour. Your ferns are gorgeous!

Thank you. I pretty much go with what I like in terms of flowers and what grows best in which part of the garden, then chose colours I like which blend well with each other.

Those ferns! I dug out about three of them from the forest way back when I was still a teenager. There was a big maple in the corner which prevented them from spreading, but when the tree had to come down due to rot and what the tree guy said was disease ( I think now that he was wrong about that and it didn't really need to be cut down. I believe he was dishonest because he'd earn more by taking it down - but you know me - I'm mistrustful sometimes.) the ferns exploded and spread like mad, for which I am glad.

I'm dying for my wildflowers to grow up. The entire bed there is going to be full of them. I've spotted a centimeter of growth since I sowed the seeds on...whatever day it was.

Tell them to hurry!

HOLY CRAP! You go, woman.

I've been yard crazy this year, but in small increments. Ours kind of HAS to be done in small increments. Today I put in a solid 4-ish hours and I'm feeling it, I can only imagine how you must feel after a WEEK!

I had written a week and a half, but it's been two weeks. I'm going to be going for week three coming up because I'm not finished with the front yard. What I forgot is that I also dug out paving stones and bricks from around the garden swing to use in the backyard gardens, then leveled those that remained, but I've still got more twentysomething pound stones to dig out and level in that area ( ... )

Thank you. I'm a bit of recluse and leaning toward ...not liking people outside of my yard, so this back garden feels as though I'm in nature paradise, and that the world doesn't exist outside of my fence - which I am down with.

The fence is six and a half feet tall (the previous one was only four), and makes the yard completely private and I don't even have to see cars going by or people walking along. It's as though my wish of wanting to live on a deserted island has almost come true, minus the noise pollution.

I was telling Robert the other day that now that the yard is a place I love, and how I feel as though the world ends at the fence, that I don't feel as though I will only be truly happy when we move away from Quebec.

Is all of that weird? Am I an oddball for being so anti-social?

Inspiring! We are working on our garden also. I think I will also take photos after looking at this.

My boyfriend suggested I take these photos, and I sort of wish I had taken some before shots, only not really because it looked pretty sad. I can't wait until the wildflowers bloom, it's going to be fabulous.

I had prepared a reply to this and then LJ at it. Nutshell:

Thank you.
I still have work to do.
Glad the backyard is small by North American standards.
However, front yard is very long.
