I did
this Meme for 2003 and forgot about it for 2004. I thought it might be a cool one to do again to look back on, and as I did it I kind of remembered where I as at about two years ago about now.
1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Hmm, a few not very exciting things, and a few neater ones. Got a job telemarketing which I had never done before, and for the first time actually didn't move at the end of the university year. Got my wallet stolen, learned how to play Crib, turned vegan, and performed a song in French in front of a big group of people. Got involved in photography, walked on Inca ruins, met a llama up close and personal, had people ask me dumb questions over the radio, met a ferret, did an interview live in studio. Took a Via train for the first time, and hiked up a mountain which caused my feet to blister up so badly I couldn't walk (that was also a first!). Went whale watching, had an all night bonfire at a beach and watched the sun rise, got up and danced onstage at a concert (we all know I'm no dancer), swam under a gorgeous waterfall and had moonlit conversations with many exciting people...etc. etc.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Actually, I did keep mine from last year (though it took a great deal of casting around to actually remember what it was). I decided to stop eating fish, having stopped meat a year and a half previous. Wow, I kept a New Year's resolution, that is really scary!
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
La Belle Quebec (not a country, but worth mentioning), and Peru, in June.
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
I think, long-term direction. 2006 is going to be a year of transition for me since I finish school in April, and I don't have an inkling of what I'd like to do afterwards.
7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Hmm...I'll just go with
May 18th/19th for this one, the release of Revenge of the Sith and the last day of the line to end all lines. There are definitely some specific memories that I'm going to keep with me but I don't necessarily remember their dates.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
1) Successfully becoming vegan.
2) Curbing the massive bouts of depression (really refreshing!)
3) Becoming financially independent, paying my bills with my money!
9. What was your biggest failure?
Definitely would have loved a little more creativity this year. I guess I'm not really trying to dwell on the bad. This year was really, really rough on the personal front at times, but overall things have moved in a positive direction.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I think I have a bit of a brain problem because I keep losing and forgetting things. As far as illnesses go, I will remember the chronic cold I had during Trois-Pistoles! I think it resulted in the worst first impressions ever, but it all turned out okay! :P
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My train ticket to Trois-Pistoles.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I'll put this one out to some friends who finished their undergrads this year:
ladyjutea,
lonicus,
shoshy04,
agentrain,
shaunp,
matuskababe,
lindodles and all of the others. Also, props to Guat who went abroad to work in the Netherlands to satiate his sense of adventure.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
No sense bringing that up here. I know, they know, we'll learn.
14. Where did most of your money go?
How we gonna pay
How we gonna pay
How we gonna pay
Last year's rent
This year's rent
Next year's RENT!!!!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Releases. Revenge of the Sith, Half-Blood Prince, Goblet of Fire.
16. What song/artist will always remind you of 2005?
Ziggy, Celine Dion. Whoa, I'm surprised I said that, don't ask.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Not as sad.
ii. Smaller or larger? LOL probably a bit larger.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I'd like to have written one great song. Also, I would have loved to spend more time with friends, but being here it's hard to spend more.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastination!
20. Did you fall in love in 2005?
Out, not in. I've imposed a prolonged single status on myself for now, it will be good for me.
21. How many one-night stands?
Nope!
22. What was your favorite TV program?
Family Guy, Survivor Guatemala toward the end, and Hockey Night in Canada ;)
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I do my best to understand instead of hate.
24. What was the best book you read?
Green Grass, Running Water, Thomas King.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Some great French artists. Also probably the music from Wicked and RENT (more like a rediscovery for RENT). Of course, I was led to all this stuff :)
26. What did you want and get?
A refuge and an adventure. Trois-Pistoles was wonderfully clarifying when I needed it.
27. What did you want and not get?
A cat, I was really close to getting one too, but I think it's for the best, not having one. Also, a flatter stomach.
28. What was your favorite film of this year?
Revenge of the Sith, there were a bunch of great ones though! Also, I haven't seen Narnia yet.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 23, I spent the day quietly with my friend from Trois-Pistoles who dropped in on his way back to Vancouver. I think all we did was sit around, play some cards, spend time in the beautiful summer sun, and then went out to dinner with my dad and brothers to celebrate someone else's birthday, but it was a lovely day and I'll remember it.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Singing in a group, I haven't since May and I miss it.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
Confused? Actually I think my loathing of shopping has only increased this year because I can never seem to find clothes (pants especially) that fit me the way I want them too.
32. What kept you sane?
Friends, and song.
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
None specifically at all actually, I'll say Ewan for the heck of it? (Whoa, I said Orlando Bloom 2 years ago, what the heck?)
34. What political issue stirred you the most?
Animal rights.
35. Who did you miss?
Friends, local or otherwise. I miss the friends I made in Quebec because they're now far away.
36. Who was the best new person you met?
I was lucky to meet so many in Quebec, but I'll describe two, who aren't necessarily above the others, but were the most inspiring to me, and taught me the most. The first is Andrea, she lives, breathes and moves music and is definitely one of the most passionate people I've ever met. We sang together and she helped open me up to developing myself vocally. The second is Eric who lives life and forges connections like no one I've never met, so I found him dazzlingly intriguing. He tapped into my activist and adventurous tendencies and showed me that a heck of a lot is possible when you put your mind to it.
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
The heart may freeze or it can burn
The pain will ease if I can learn
There is no future
There is no past
I live this moment as my last (Jonathan Larson's RENT)
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I should tell you I'm disaster
I forget how to begin it (Jonathan Larson's RENT)
