The Olympic torch passed through Caerphilly yesterday.
The town was jam-packed with people
It was a glorious sunny day and I was a bit late in leaving the house so by the time I reached the main road all the best viewpoints had been taken and the crowds were four or five deep. :( I managed to climb half way up the grassy bank that leads to a path running towards the Castle entrance. I could look down onto the main road over the heads of the other spectators so I thought I might be able get a few fair shots of the torch passing by.
Then I heard a woman call to someone on the bank to climb up to the path as the torch would be going into the Castle first. I remembered looking at the route online the night before but I had totally forgotten it was going into the Castle! Not so many people were lining the path so I managed to get a prime spot. Yay!
I actually felt really excited! Everyone kept looking up the hill in anticipation and then we could see the advertising vehicles for Samsung and Coca Cola coming down the road (They couldn't come up the narrow path so they just went past on the road below)
Then I could hear the cheering getting closer and there he was!
This is Kenneth Powell, 69 who was nominated because of the care and support he gives his family and disabled children in the community. I'm so glad I got a photo(even though I cut the flame off) - I didn't manage to get one of Bronwen Davies who took over from Mr Powell inside the castle. She came past me on her way out but I clicked too soon and only got a photo of her legs!
