Halloween

So... I thought my camera was at my parents' house, but it was really in the bottom of my purse this whole time. Thank you, Kilari, for finding it.
So, anyway.. I can finally do my Halloween post!

Willow has been asking to be Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas for the last two years. I didn't end up having time last year, but this year I threw my all into it, and I am quite pleased with the results. Unfortunately, she had a horrible reaction to the makeup two days later, but, oh, man, she loved it at the time!

And then, of course, there's Kilari, who you see above, standing next to Willow, awaiting her turn at costuming. (Yes, it was warm enough here in Wisconsin on October 31st to go around in our underthings.) After all the excitement, she refused to put makeup on, but did wear her wonderful 'scary teeth' to accompany the Goblin Princess costume I originally made for Willow when she was three. At the time, Willow's costume request was simply, "a bone in my hair," so I built on the concept, fearing my child would freeze to death. (The pink undershirt was also added for this purpose.) This version is minus the green face, pinky-purple eyes and striped tights, and is a bit more bedraggled than it was 3 years ago. I assure you, in action, her tummy didn't hang out at all.

And then there's me. I realized at the last minute that I didn't have a costume on, so I went with quick elf. Luckily I am the proud owner of many elfish adornments. I didn't get a full length picture of myself that day, but the brown shirt you see I cut off asymmetrically below the bust and wore it over a lighter brown camisole, with a grey-green, tattered, gored, handkerchief, calf-length skirt, and my customary striped socks and moss green shoes. The hair adornament was something I made for my Siren costume from sidhe_etain 's Hallowedding Shindig, and have discovered I enjoy wearing on a fairly regular basis. The one you can't see so well I  made for Willow for Ren Faire when she was an elf this summer, of beads and shells and feathers, all hanging on strings. The eye makeup was fun. I'm not usually one for such things, but I think I've become inspired by faerie_makeup .

We had a great time trick-or-treating, and we were all done by the time Christopher came home (well, to my parents', where we were) at 5:45, but he got to see us in our glory! Willow handed out candy to the other kids that came along, I got to see my childhood neighbor/friend carting around her baby in a bumblebee suit, we dressed my sister's boyfriend as Uncle Fester, she put on wings and became the picture faerie (she was working on a photo project at the time and had cameras and light meters and whatnot slung about her person,) we had a lovely Samhain fire and mummy fingers and zombie skin and embalming fluid and pus and all sorts of fun things to eat and drink, liberally including candy. And it was a beautiful, beautiful day!

THE END.
