ARGGGGGH!!! Mattie, why do you have to be so MATTIE about this?!

As always, completely believable -- heartbreakingly so. And now I must hang on in torment until the next chapter, hoping that Mattie may yet talk herself around...

I'm working at a furious pace on the next chapter, so hopefully you won't have to wait long!

Thanks, as always, for reading and commenting. :)

I have mentioned that I love your Rooster, right? “Hm,” he said, eyeing her. “Reckon you’ll be all right. Ain’t steered yourself wrong so far. He better just hope you want to steer in his direction.” I can just see him saying it, and it's beautiful.

Also, If only he would not look at her so, she could be as firm as she ought to be. THESE CRAZY KIDS.

Rooster has been one of the biggest surprises in writing this. I almost didn't bring him into it at all because I was scared I wouldn't be able to do him justice, but I'm so glad I did. He's great fun to write, and getting to explore the relationship between him and Mattie that began in the original story has been so great.

Thanks for reading and commenting! :)

wow!
fantastically written! Very realist, I love how you're not rushing things... Dropping hints here and there and letting the story unfold in its own time.
I would have been utterly surprised if Mattie had reacted in any other way than how you portrayed it above. Great job, and looking forward to seeing how it all plays out!

Thanks! I was worried that it was going to be too much of a melodrama rollercoaster, but it seems to be working out all right. :) Hopefully I'll have a new chapter sooner rather than later.

Thanks for reading and commenting!!

I have a confession: I am a huge fan of yours, but you wouldn't know it because I am hopeless at leaving comments. Sorry.
Your Tim and Julie fics are so absolutely perfect that when I saw you were writing in this fandom I was inspired to watch the movie so I could read them. And I've now stayed up 'till 2.30am Australian time to finish this one.
And this fic, my friend, is AMAZING. As is your other Mattie/LeBoeuf fic, but you have just NAILED the voices in this one IMO. The pace at which the story and the romance unfolds is pitch perfect. I can't wait for the next chapter :-)

Wow, thank you so much! The word "fan" has me totally dumbstruck over here. You're very kind.

I'm certainly glad you decided to give True Grit a try, and that you've enjoyed this story so far. Hoping to have the next chapter ready to go soon.

Thanks again for reading and commenting. :)

Hi, there! Just wanted to say I'm enjoying the heck out of this story. As everyone else has so rightly said, all the voices are stunningly perfect, the little sensory details of the world are wonderful, and Mattie and LaBoeuf's bantersome horn-locking (with simmering UST) is a total pairing kink of mine. I really hope those kids can work something out. If you don't mind, I'll friend you so I can keep an eye out for the next chapter and anything else you come out with.
