Oooh, I didn't know that about Christmas! I always thought that ancient peeps weren't good enough at calendars to figure out the real solstice. Interesting!
And I very much enjoyed your Q. The whole story was so well done!
Ancient peeps were most def on top of it! You can learn more about it here the way all astronomy should be learned--from the velvet-voiced, turtleneck-wearing Carl Sagan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-5dwJwau1Y
Your comment makes me Eeeee with delight, so I'm glad I could enliven your day a little bit--sorry it was a crappy one; I hope things have since taken a turn for the better.
I kind of want an XM Radio channel DJ'd by a starship crew now.
Bones doing his work and us seeing it-- Jim being captain in all the best, smart!Jim who contributes and yet lets his people do their jobs in the best of the fandom's nu!Kirkian ways-- Uhura getting some real dialogue action-- an awesomely obnoxious Q-- ensemble fic and SCIENCE, real SCIENCE that made for a real episode feel, along with all the lovely ensemble action.
What a lovely, lovely end to a bedraggled day, and of course-- all the lovely, loving (and shared memories, so maybe Jim reads Bones better than he thinks after all) touching between Jim and Bones (and the hot sexxins, too) is just a sparkling, blue-fronded cap on an elegant, eloquent, supremely wonderful fic.
I am so glad that you survived the 7 Levels of Retail Hell and still had the energy left to read this fic, which was more than kind of you, as were your lovely comments.
Oooh, this is great! Even with my limited knowledge of Q, I loved how she fit into the story and interacted with Jim. Jim and Bones holding onto each other in the dark is a beautiful image. There's a real sense of community throughout the ship. I'm glad I read it in the dark, too :)
