Kirk’s got him half-seduced by taking an interest, and the other half by sliding his long fingers up and down the inseam of McCoy’s trousers like he’s trying, very slowly, to light a fire.

Mmm, great line.

Thanks! I spend a lot of time thinking about McCoy's trousers, so I'm glad it paid off ;)

“The first rule of combat,” he says in a voice that’s deep and husky and still oddly adolescent, “is that there are no rules.”

I really, really love that line, and your characterization of Jim overall.

Especially in the MU, I think it's very true! Glad you liked it.

oh man, this is REALLY great. I think my favorite part of this is how much you imbue Pike with utter menace, i am sweating along with McCoy in his quarters and in the Academy flashbacks i can feel his presence permeating everything. Plus i love your Kirk, he is ruthless, efficient and so f-ing in love it's scary. and Bones is bones, it's good dependable characterization. he's not a broken down shell of a man and he's not a total monster, he's leonard H. mccoy in a ruthless universe doing what he needs to get by and he's so recognizable and right I love it.

Your comments are music to my ears! I'm glad you found Pike menacing; it was hard to keep him the avuncular, funny Pike we know from the movie and still make it clear that he's a scary mofo. Killing a man in cold blood right off the bat always helps, though :)

Poor Bones, an somewhat ethical man is such an unethical reality. With the menace of Pike's hovering and Kirk's claim on him, looks as if 'hard' times are ahead. Look forward to the next part.
