Samantha pulls away reluctantly from the electric kiss, her eyes watery. Lindsay’s confused expression causes her to tear up even more as she steps backward. “You’ve got a boyfriend. We’ve been here before, and I’m not doing it again,” Samantha says, feigning confidence. She throws her almost finished cigarette to the ground and crushes it beneath a fresh pair of supras as she begins to walk away.
Lindsay grabs her by the hand but she refuses to turn around, knowing that the invisible barrier between the two is all that is keeping her from a breakdown. “It’s different this time,” the girl pleads, sliding her ice-cold fingers between Samantha’s. “I hate not being near you.”

She turns around slowly, blinking several tears from her eyes. Lindsay reaches forward, smiling and wiping her moist cheeks. Samantha pulls her into a tight embrace, and allows herself to simply enjoy this moment of happiness.

It seems as though time has stopped, but only for the two of them. As uneager as they are to end their embrace, Samantha and Lindsay separate and walk toward the building's entrance hand in hand.

Once inside, several guests approach Samantha wishing her a happy birthday but avoiding remarks about her new arm-candy. Niceties aside, the two find their way to the lounge where much earlier drama occurred, and discover it empty.

They sit, comfortably and close, while Samantha orders their drinks. Feeling like a queen, Lindsay smiles and grabs the black fedora from the DJ’s head. She musses with her hair and puts the hat on her own head, giggling.

“Why tonight?” asks Samantha, smiling sweetly as she pats her messy hair back into place.

Lindsay grins, and leans closer. “Just consider it my birthday gift to you,” she says, and Samantha remembers the earlier gift offering. She reaches into her jacket pocket where she finds the small felt box. She pries it slowly open, finding a diamond-incrusted ring displaying the initials “LL”.

Samantha smiles from ear-to-ear, feeling youthful and in love. She tilts her head toward Lindsay, their lips almost touching. “Best birthday present ever,” she mouths as they kiss.

Leaves a lot to the imagination...but that just means I have to write again soon! Thanks for reading, and commenting!
