Samantha’s eyelids flutter, threatening sleep. Her head feels heavy, and everything sounds hollow in her head. She realizes this was in part because of spending the last four hours inside a noisy DJ booth, but she also remembers how long it has been since she last had a good night’s sleep.
“I’m not trying to be pushy but I need to get some sleep. I’ll drive you home,” Samantha says nodding her head towards the door.
“You don’t have to drive me home,” says Lindsay, a look of pure innocence on her face.
“What are you talking about? It’s 4am. What are you going to do, walk? Take a cab?” Samantha says, realizing suddenly how testy she sounds. “Don’t be crazy, just grab your stuff and we’ll go. I’m fine to drive.”
Lindsay doesn’t budge, and instead drops her bag from her lap and onto the floor. Samantha notices her child-like grin. “I meant I could stay here. Then you wouldn’t have to drive me home.” Samantha nods reluctantly.
“I guess I could make up the guest room for you..” Samantha begins but is interrupted by Lindsay’s sudden exit from the room. “Where are you going?” Samantha yells after her. She lets out a sigh and follows the girl, finally arriving in her own bedroom. There she finds Lindsay sprawled across the king-sized bed, wrapped haphazardly amongst a feather duvet.
“Very funny. Where am I supposed to sleep?” Samantha says, her hands strategically placed upon her hips for humor sake. Lindsay rolls over; minimizing the space she took up in her sprawling state. She lifts her head from the ultra soft pillows at the head of the bed and gently taps her hand on the opposite side of the mattress. A mischievous smile takes over her face.
Samantha’s eyes widen, unsure of a response. She searches Lindsay’s face for any hint. Is she joking? she thinks to herself. “Come on, it’ll be like a slumber party,” pleads Lindsay, jutting her bottom lip forward to a pout for dramatic effect.
Samantha thinks for a moment, wondering what consequences she will face if she agrees. Balancing the pros and cons in her head, she sits herself down on the edge of the bed opposite of Lindsay.
A beautiful woman in my bed - this is good. The rumours that are sure to arise if anyone catches us leaving together in the morning - this is bad. The most amazing girl…in my bed. Alright, good outweighs the bad.
After an intense struggle with her own mind, Samantha turns to Lindsay, half smiling. “Why do you want to stay?” she says.
“I hate sleeping alone. I had fun tonight, and I’m not ready to leave yet. I promise I don’t snore…loudly,” Lindsay says, letting out an adorable giggle, the kind that Samantha can’t resist.
