There are a lot of places on the West Coast that would have what you're looking for. I'd suggest CA, but I understand if our lovely little state here is too expensive. But there are some places in Oregon that are very progressive and thriving, and, of course, there is the Seattle area, as well.
You should come to southern New Hampshire with me. I don't know about thai and sushi, but it's close enough to Maine for good lobster. There are several colleges in southern New Hampshire, including community colleges all the way up to Dartmouth (at least, I think that's the NH ivy league school). It's fairly close to Boston, MA, meaning you'll probably have good access to cons. Also, NH has no income tax or sales tax -- that's got to be a plus in and of itself. Of course, I'm being a bit selfish because it would mean I've got a definite friend up there once we get everything finalized, but hey! I made the case! ;D

Not to make your lives any harder, but you might want to consider Huntsville, AL, as well: Excellent Thai and Sushi, there's a couple of sci-fi cons in the area as well as a couple of renn faires, an active SCA group an UAH, close to Birmingham, Nashville and Chattanooga -- where there are a good number of concerts.
And, of course, cool people like myself. There's also a community college, where my wife teachers (I have a wife!) -- Calhoun Community College.
If you should come visit, let me know, I suspect we can make arrangements.
