Menu Help for BBQ

If anyone is still around, I could use some menu help. We're having our neighbors over on Sunday night for a bbq. So far we're having brats, beef hot dogs, and roasted pesto potatoes. I'm also making a lemon cake for dessert. But I think we need something else with the main meal-a vegetable of some sort? The meal seems sort of carb heavy. I'd ( Read more... )

I'm clueless. Can a 2-year old eat corn on the cob? I'd love artichokes, but hubby hates them. :(

That would work. And corn is on sale at Pavilions! :)

That sounds good, too. How would I cook them? Just boil or steam them? Can you tell I'm a cooking novice? ;)

I'd steam them. Not too too long. Sprinkle with a little salt and melted butter when they're done, maybe (check with the kid's parents, some kids don't like stuff on their veggies, and some do). That's as fancy as I'd get for a two year old... adding garlic and sliced almonds or something might be a little over the top for them.

I think the bbq'd corn sounds like a good idea - a 2 year old would probably like that. I also remember liking corn cut off the cob when I was a kid because all of the kernels stick together. If you didn't want to have to make anything else, you could always do something refreshing like fresh fruit (not sure what is still in season - strawberries or watermelon?).

hope i'm not to late to share ideas...i love to talk about food :)

2 year olds LOVE fruit. maybe a fun fruit salad. you can even make a special one for the little one by cutting cute shapes. fruit is always a hit and very light with your menu you have listed. my mom used to top our fruit salad with whipped cream. love that!

or a green salad of some sort.

i was going to suggest corn, too, but that's a carb.

You could also do grilled asparagus since you are doing the BBQ thing. Just some olive oil, salt and pepper. I think a 2 year old would eat it if it was cut up. Have fun!
