I would definitely blow my top over that response from the teacher. Maddening!!!
I hope you get this figured out soon. I just learned that Anna got a pretty low score on her DIBELS reading test, which I discovered is fairly common in bright kids who read well, because the test measures whether they can string letters together to blend into nonsense words. A lot of strong readers try to make the word into the closest real word it resembles, rather than just reading the nonsense word that's there. Also, the test is timed, which I'm sure my little slowpoke doesn't love. So, this is to say, this is my first taste of feeling like the system isn't supporting my special snowflake, and it sucks. :(
Ugh is right! Hopefully things improve when you start volunteering in her class. Why can't the groups be based on the teacher's actual assessment of the student's ability?! Everything has to be so standardized these days. Good luck and keep us posted!
It's time to take that email to the principal. It's ridiculous. You wrote to the teacher to discuss a particular, ongoing situation with your child and you get that crap back? No way.
Very frustrating to get such a thoughtless response to your well-thought out email on a topic that is clearly important and meaningful to you. I know teachers are busy but to me this is just thoughtless. She couldn't find the time to insert at least one feeling word to show she understands and cares, takes this as seriously as you??
I'm constantly frustrated at situations like these. We've gotten several emails like this for T, JJ, and JP this year. Makes me want to start a PSA campaign on topics like this!
Totally! If she didn't have time, maybe she could've suggested a time to meet and discuss briefly in person. Instead that email sounds like she didn't even give your concerns much thought.
And NO mention of the quiet space for assessments?? She completely missed your main request which you have data to support! Steam coming out of my ears!

Yes the nonsense word test really throws readers who make sense as they read (a good reading skill!!)
