the best damn thing?

Hmmm. I do wonder, kiddies. No seriously, it's good. But it could be better in some places. But I feel like reviewing it, since yeah.. she's my favourite artist and all, so she deserves it at least XD And hey, did I ever mention we should just scrap the title and call it 'Axel Roxas OST?' Nope? Well I did now. Honestly. XD

AVRIL LAVIGNE: THE BEST DAMN THING

Track 01 - Girlfriend. Heck, you know what I think about this. I heard it, and was kinda shocked, it was really daring and the like. It started off on a liking level, and thought I would listen to it just so I could be all bouncy and off the walls. But it has really grown on me, honestly. I can listen to it and instantly go hyper and off the walls. It probably was Axel that made me like this song. I swear, it's his, it relates so much. As lots of people said on the video on youtube, they didn't like the song till thinking of it with Axel. Guess I'm kinda the same. It's catchy with it's riffs, though, especially the 'hey hey you you I don't like your girlfriend!' I mean, I think that's very daring. I've heard people singing that one line and not knowing the rest of the song. XD Either way, out of about five stars, she's getting a good solid four here. Perhaps five. 4/5

Track 02 - I Can Do Better. Seriously? Concidering the fact that Girlfriend, if this was my first listen, would not leave an impression? I would have stopped listening to the album here. Avril? Listen to your words. You can do better than this. I've heard it. Some of the lyrics... are alright, I suppose:

That's why you're gone. I could do better. I could do better.

Actually, the lyrics have potential. Part of them need changing slightly, then it would be better. I like some of the lyrics because that's how I feel about my ex-crush, I just want him to get lost because 'I could do better'. But... there's some points, where the lyrics make me cringe. When she starts having several different tones of singing. On one of them, she's screaming, literally, screaming singing. I can't stand that, I really can't. It makes me want to turn off. The backing itself, is alright, I like it. I guess with the combined effort of both things despite the disappointing factors, she's getting three, mainly because I can relate to the lyrics. If I couldn't, it would be 2. 3/5

Track 03 - Runaway. The 'Anything But Ordinary' of this album. The backing is great, the lyrics are awesome, it's the typical Avril.

I just wanna scream and loose control. Throw my hands up and let it go. Forget about everything and run away.

It's for every mood, this. I could listen to this when depressed, but not actually runaway, if you catch my drift. Runaway from the problems, like. Even though the lyrics are more positive and just yelling 'ha ha' to life (as she sings - 'life is a b*tch'), it works on that scale. It can also work when you're dead happy, for more like the 'love' side of things, and just to be yourself and be free. It's got meaning, this, and I like it a lot. Here you go Avril, have your first five! 5/5

Track 04 - The Best Damn Thing. If it wasn't for the fact I know and love Avril, and vowed to listen to songs all the way through, I wouldn't have seen the beauty that is this song. It starts with the random blah that brought down 'I Can Do Better' - but after 24 seconds? Gorgeous. Absolutely brilliant backing. It keeps slipping in and out of the random bleugh, but I guess it's alright. It just doesn't work with both of them together, mind. Favourite line? When the beautiful part comes in.

Where are the hopes. Where are the dreams. My cinderella story scene.

Just the backing then. Made me smile and feel all awesome inside, it's the ballad like stuff. If that was a song by itself, I would listen to the chorus - wait, those three lines - all day. The chorus is wonderful, it's just the verses dragging it down. Even then, it would be alright if they were in their own song, it would work. I don't know. Still, I think it will hit well with the fans. I really do like this a lot, but I don't think it's going to get it's title worth. The bridge is the best damn thing, yes. XD 4/5

Track 05 - When You're Gone. DAMMIT AVRIL YOU GET A FULL BLOWN FIVE IN THE FIRST FIVE SECONDS OF THIS SONG. The intro. It made me cry by itself. Honestly, it's beautiful. I'm a sucker for piano sings and ballads, and this really sells the song to me and makes me want to listen. If I could give her ten, she'd get it. Screw that, she'd get platinum, she should get an award for this song. It makes me cry, even though for me it doesn't really hold a meaning as such. But it's gorgeous. Lyrics, and backing.

The words I need to hear to get me through the day. And make it okay. I miss you.
When you walk away I count the steps that you take. Do you see how much I need you right now?

Again, this is probably going to become one of - if not - the angsty favourite AkuRoku song. I don't know, it just will. For them, it makes me cry. Again, the ending is as the beginning was. When I heard the preview of this song, it really got me going, I was all over it. Heck, this one is going to hit top, guys - even on the CD cover, it had this song on it. It's getting it's own single from the response. Kudos, Avril. You've given me another favourite song of yours. 5+/5

Track 06 - Everything Back But You. When I first heard this, I got one line stuck in my head.

I wish you were her, you left out the 'e'.

I don't know, it's rebellious Avril, and it's good. It's rather cocky and playful, which is what Avril said she wanted the album to be like. It's also pretty unique, I suppose, with the main focus of the song. The backing is pretty good as well, classic drum beat and electric guitar solos. Nothing special, mind. It's good, overall. 3/5

Track 07 - Hot. Even the title put me off this song, but yes, I had to listen to it as I said I would. In short? I don't like it. I really, really don't like this song. It might just be the lyrics, but I don't know.. there's just something in it that makes me want to turn it off. The backing, however, saves it somewhat. It's pretty good, if I was forced to give some positive feedback on it. 2/5

Track 08 - Innocence. SUCKER FOR PIANO BALLADS (that being me). Geeze, this is one of those things you can see people dancing too. It's gorgeous, and the lyrics are once again, pretty brilliant.

This moment is perfect. Please don't go away. I need you now. And I'll hold onto it. Don't you let it pass you by...
It's so beautiful it makes you wanna cry.

I really, really like this song. When I clicked through the links for each one, this one got my attention first. It's the opening, it catches me onto it. She kinda experiments in it as well with her music. And if you haven't guessed by now, it's an Axel/Roxas song. XD 5/5

Track 09 - I Don't Have To Try. After the beauty of the last one, this one brings it right back down. It's got the random bleugh at the start of The Best Damn Thing. And it does go off into very, very very rocky. She's just saying the words. It's not getting through at all, I swear. And like.. it's got the clapping of Girlfriend, but just that. Not much else. The backing, again, saves it. But she is just saying the words most of the time and I don't like it. This is probably the worst song on the album, and if I could take any song away, it would be this one. Or at least, make her sing it properly and not sound like a strangled cat XD cos she does, when she does her 'saying' voice. 1/5

Track 10 - One Of Those Girls. Traditional Avril. Though for once, it's kind of preppy girl bashing, and that guys should pay attention to people other than them. Sorta like Sk8er Boi, but not. XD Oh geeze, but I really do like this one. It's got the really good beat, and I could probably listen to this over and over again. It's not too repetative, but just enough to make it good. And once again, it's an Axel cover.

She's one of those girls, but nothing but trouble. Just one look, and now you're seeing double. Before you know it, she'll be gone.

Axel singing about Naminé. What's even more scarier, is probably the following line:

Her blonde hair, and her blue eyes. Makes you wanna die.

Yeah, I'm over analysing. But as I said, this album is totally AkuRoku, in my opinion. In short, this song is good, and I can probably listen to this on repeat for a long time. Probably because I can be jealous like that, I suppose. Out of five, this one is getting a 4.5/5. It would get five, but there's a slight bit in the middle that I don't really like, so, it gets degraded a little bit.

Track 11 - Contagious. Honestly? I love it. It's the upbeat Avril we love. Similar, if you think about it, to Thing's We'll Never Say, in the respect it's more 'lovey' than you'd think. And it's so sweet at points, and makes me smile and start dancing around to the song.

And I walk out in silence. That's when I start to realize. What you bring to my life. Damn this guy can make me smile.

One of the points, she sings 'cry' instead of smile. I don't know, but when I first heard those sections, 'Axel' once again popped into my head. Heh, once again, unrelated. One of the bad things is that fact it's short, and can be slightly repetative. I'd love it if she could have continued on for another minute or so, it barely scrapes two. But anyway, I'm going all out and giving her 5/5.

Track 12 - Keep Holding On. Three words. I love it. It's a gorgeous, timeless song. It's pretty ironic actually, said film was released today as well. I don't know, but this song really touches me and makes me smile - it's the positive side that I don't really get out of songs. I listen to it and cry, and feel a lot better - I don't get that from most songs, though Avril's usually are the exception. But here, she does expirement slightly with the backing, making it somewhat unique. It's not the *best* backing on the album in my view, but it's cutting it close lyrics wise. Have another five, Avril. 5/5

So lets see. One song, 1. One song, 2. Two songs, 3. Three songs, 4. Four songs, 5. (and one of those three on four is also closing five). Overall, this album is wonderful, and will probably send her rising up the charts. Still, it's for a picky taste, it's not old traditional Avril all the time, but she's done a good job experimenting. I would call it The Best Damn Thing, but it's pretty close. Kudos, Avril. You've made a fan happy. XD

paticularly the AkuRoku stuff XD Avril, till further notice, must be Avril Lavigne. Maybe? XD

And yes, there are my lovely thoughts and opinions on one of my favourite artists. You're win, Avril~

And that's all I've got to say, except people actually turned up for the thing today, surprisingly. I didn't think they would, but they did. :o which is a good thing, got some good feeback so I can improve the stuff more now. But pah, school tomorrow. PAH. XD

half term, games: kingdom hearts, school, people: avril lavigne
