So I got a freaking B in my literature seminar.  I'm pissed b/c a B in a grad class is almost like a high D or something anywhere else.  I mean it doesn't do that much to your GPA, I guess, but it raises eyebrows.  You get enough Bs and people start wondering if you should really be there.  I think the thing that was most upsetting was that the ( Read more... )

I freaked the hell out when I got a B in my syntax class my first semester of grad school. Turned out the teacher had forgotten that I had turned in a homework online (which was allowed), so she had given me a zero. I found her grade on it, and she realized her mistake and corrected it.

lol; yeah...I definitely was happy when I managed a B in my syntax class first semester at Madison. I FLAVOR-FAILED the first test and then worked my ass off the whole semester to bring my grade up even that high. Even so though, I think I got at least 2 B's in that department. Decided it was time to jump ship.

I had the misfortune of having that same prof for two lit classes (one by misguided choice, and one because he happened to be teaching the survey course the semester I needed it). Bs both times. It's not just you. I mean, you walk in to his office hours, ask him to explain something to you, because it seems important to the class, and he responds "well, it's complicated". No shit! That's why I'm asking! The guy might be brilliant, but he doesn't know how to teach to non-lit specialists ( ... )

dude, I feel you, but I think it says more about that professor than it does about you. Sympathies for your having to handle a #&%(ing stupid situation.

Hey, I got a B in my first or second (first, I think) semester of my MA, in an American Studies class ("Globalization," good class actually, good prof, just really demanding in some ways) for less worthy reasons, and they even let me graduate.
