Fic Meme

So, it's been ages and ages since I've posted anything, and I apologize for it being all about me. But Sproid said I should, so...

Fic I wrote in 2013:

January:
Though Your Heart is Breaking, Cabin Pressure, Douglas/Helena, Teen, 6,479 words
Measure for Measure (with c3mf), Cabin Pressure, gen, Teen, 5,253 words
L'Chaim, Cabin Pressure, gen, G, 2,154 words
Icarus Descending, Cabin Pressure, gen, G, 1,900 words

February:
Dance Little Lair (with c3mf), Cabin Pressure, gen, Teen, 9,937 words
The Season of All Natures, Cabin pressure, gen, G, 1,183 words

March:
Snow Day, Cabin Pressure, gen, G, 1,599 words

April:
Contagion of Trust, Cabin Pressure, gen, G, 8,458 words

May:
Defined by Negatives, Cabin Pressure, gen, G, 3,123 words

June:
The Father of Security, Cabin Pressure, gen, g, 6,124 words

July:
Laundry Day, Cabin Pressure, gen, G, 1,747 words

August, September, October, November:
Massive, massive writer's block in which I started at least 8 stories and finished none of them.

December:
I'm Dreaming Of..., Cabin Pressure, gen, G, 2,671 words

This year I wrote and posted:
50,628 words, 12 stories in 1 fandom.

Overall Thoughts:
I started the year out super inspired and then kind of petered off, for one reason or another. July-December was frustrating, as I wanted to write CP but was uninspired, and then was inspired to write Endeavour, but couldn't make the words form sentences. Everything I wrote seemed dull and lifeless and it was incredibly discouraging. If not for my last-minute Christmas fic, I'd have had a 5-month dry spell.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Less. Starting off with four fics in January and then dropping to about one a month, then nothing left my coffers emptier than I'd imagined.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
I've rp'ed for the first time, which has been quite the interesting experience.

What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
"Icarus Descending" is the one I'm proudest of, both because I flatter myself the structure is unique (every paragraph starts with the next letter of the alphabet), it ended with a nice round number of words, and it tells a coherent story.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Writing with a partner for the first time. I learned that if you find the right person, it can be a great joy.

From my past year of writing, what was....
My best story of this year:
"Dance Little Liar," I think. It is suspenseful and different than my usual style, and was really a stretch for me to write. But the structure holds well, and I think it's a gripping story.

My most popular story of this year:
By hits and kudos: 'The Father of Security.'

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
"Icarus Descending," I suppose. I felt/feel like people didn't realize the technical challenge and dismissed it as a short bit of h/c. Although "Dance Little Liar didn't show up as high on the kudos/hits list as I thought it had, for some reason.

Most fun story to write:
A tie between "Snow Day" and "Laundry Day" I love writing short little scenes between Douglas and his daughter.

Story with the single sexiest moment:
None of mine have sexy moments. None of what gets published, anyway.

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
"Dance Little Liar," again, though since I seem to specialize in gen...

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
"Though Your Heart is Breaking," which is the story of a Douglas in an abusive relationship with Helena. It has some flaws (unnecessary deviation from canon, for example), but is a different take than I'd had before.

Hardest story to write:
"I'm Dreaming Of..." if only because I struggled so, so hard to write anything worth posting.

Biggest Disappointment:
That I couldn't get some of the ideas I have/had right on the page.

Biggest Surprise:
That people are still finding my stories somehow, and leaving kudos on them.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
If you add "The Father of Security" and "The Season of All Natures."

Fic-writing goals for 2014:
Write something. Anything. Try editing a story once in a while. Learn to write in more than one sitting. Learn to write a character besides Douglas.

fic, don't mind me
