Seo Joo Hyun has always been self-disciplined and goal oriented, achieving her “to-do” list one items at a time. Of course, this included fulfilling her dream of being a singer and a member to the most popular girl group in Korea.
She has 8 wonderful sisters who would go through anything for her just as she would for them without thinking. Therefore, with such strong love and support, the thought of being in a relationship never came across to her. She knew she would eventually when she is older and more mature just not now when she is still at the peak of her career. More like when Jung Yong Hwa came along.
He was not muscular and extremely handsome like her SM Oppa but maybe it was the way he was so patient with her, calmly following her pace without being asked to or the way he smiles showing his not so perfect set of teeth that without knowing, she was changing and showing a different side of herself that only her sisters got to see.
She knew that there was something else that was there throughout their entire stint on the show but being her; she did not dare to pursue it since she knew all the hardships her sisters faced. Crazy schedules, company restrictions and hatred from fans, she knew all too well that it will not work out.
She knew he was disappointed when she said no to a relationship with him and she was expecting him to cut ties with her but that did not happen. He continued to contact her whenever he could through messages at wee hour in the morning to a quick 5 minutes phone call. He was always keeping in touch and that was something he has never been known for doing even to his own parents.
Her sisters and his brothers got to know each other very well and are always supporting each other’s success and not afraid of showing their support in their respective albums. However, she and him just continue to in the zone where they are friends but not quite couple label.
Well, it was not that she did not know what is happening, she was just too afraid to pursue it. What if she realise that they are not meant to be? What if they grew tired of each other? What if all that she is feeling is just an infatuation and not love like what she thought she is feeling for him?
She doubt she could be in love with him since she could still function like a normal person but just she does get the feel that something is missing from her world and that is not as satisfying as she though she felt before he entered into her life.
The more she thought about it, the more it occurred to her that she always felt happier whenever she receives a message from him or a call. It was like he was an energy pill for her, making her smile happily that had her sisters teasing endlessly non stop for the whole day. Then what in the world is stopping her then? It was the questions that they would always ask her without fail.
Yes, if there seems to be nothing stopping her, then why was she so afraid then?
She gets worried whenever he is sick and would nag him endlessly to reduce his love for ice coffee. She would often send to him and his brothers’ boxes or herbal medicine or buying gifts from places she has been too. She would often notice how his voice will instantly cheer up whenever she calls him and the way his cheeks would bursts whenever she visits them at his dorm or the way he calls her “Hyun-ah” that would automatically send tingles all the way to her toes and making her heart beat faster.
“You do realise that you are in love with Yong Hwa right? All the things you have been doing are what a girlfriend do for their boyfriend.” Tiffany asks her one evening after their stint at Music Core where his group was also in their midst of their album promotions too.
“I guess I am unnie.” She sighs finally acknowledging that what she has known for a while in her heart.
“Then you need to stop making him suffer. I mean you have been dating all the time since the show ended. You see? It is not that hard after all.” Taeyeon commented.
She nods again, it is not that hard and maybe she should stop running away from her feelings and making him suffer. Taking her phone, she decided to call him. After all, it was now or never.
They met up at a small café that secluded and known to keep mum of the idols they spot coming in for their coffee dates. It was there where she gathered her courage and told him her feelings for him. He kept quiet for a while after she finished, making her think that she may have been too late and that he has finally moved on. Determined to keep her disappointment to herself, she started to get her things wanting to leave the place and that was when she felt his hand holding her wrist.
She looks up and sees him smiling like an idiot who has struck the jackpot.
“Thanks for loving me back, Hyun ah.” He tells her tenderly, unable to wipe the happy smile off his face.
As he brought her over to his side to give her a hug, she felt that her world was back in order again. Inhaling his scent was so comforting and it made her feel like she came home.
“I love you, Yong oppa.” She whispers softly in his ear feeling his arms tighten around her.
Smiling to herself, she never thought that giving her heart would this easy.
