I'm forced to disagree.

Parents can teach you valuable lessons. They can be very helpful, supportive, and give you wisdom.

Sometimes they also serve as a lesson for how NOT to deal with life.

I would say, instead, that while you should do your best in life and learn from the lessons your parents teach you, that you should also be aware that parents are also imprefect beings: while it is always good to try and imitate your parents' good qualities, attempt to avoid inheriting thier faults.

Sometimes you have to learn from parent-figures who are not you parents, and their opinions matter too. And sometimes you have to make a choice between what one parent says is right, and what the other one insists is right.

Yeah, it's a given that parents aren't perfect.

This is just in general.

I guess maybe from now on I should state whether I'm being specific or general.

*hugs* It's not a bad post. You got the important bits across. You just forgot the "remember to evaluate it for yourself before blindly obeying" part.

*hughughug* Don't feel so down. You're doin' good.

Ow.

I didn't mean that your entry was somehow horribly flawed! I was just voiving my personal opinion. Which is what LJ is usually about.

And for you- and for many people- your entry was entirely legitimatre.

Please don't take my comment personally?

Yeah... Role-models are good. :D And it's also good to learn from your own lessons or from what you learn from people around you (like friends) because they tend to stick harder then what parents tell you not to do....or at least that's how it is for me...

But yeah... Parents are good in general I guess...

You shouldn't be afraid to post your feelings on your own journal, I mean, they are what you think so it shouldn't matter what everyone else says... But sometimes they do have points. :D

LJ is like a discussion board, I see it that way. People are gunna submit their opinions, whether you want them to or not.

If you really don't like the idea then I guess you're wasting your time on LJ--

-.-;;

I do agree with the parent part (in general) Good stuff-
