Today on The View:
A Day of "Real Life Hot Topics"

that include "a camp claiming that they make their patrons straight".

Dear Joy,

My name is Kate Ireson and I am 18 years old. I watched your show today and saw the segment on "the camp claiming that they make their patrons straight". It made me so mad I felt like throwing up, literally. How can they sit there and act like being gay is a bad thing? It's been my experience that gays are more well-rounded and have a better sense of what’s up. I believe that they are the sweetest people and more understanding than most non-gays I've met and know.

It's just another part of life, it happens, it's nothing to fear. If God really thought so low of it, he wouldn't have allowed for gay people. He wouldn't have allowed this type of feeling, this type of emotion, to occur. I'm sure that environment can be a factor in whether or not you are gay but they have proven that they are differences in gay and straight male's brains. And I'm sorry but, you can't be gay and then go to a "camp" and come out "straight". It just isn't possible. You're just denying who you are, it didn't really change you. To me, there are three options for this young man, he is either a liar (meaning he was never gay), he was bi-curious and the camp discouraged him from his gay feelings, or he is just simply denying who he is. I just can't believe that they actually had the nerve to come on television and tell people that you can change from gay to straight. I just don't believe that that is possible and until they have hard evidence, it's just opinion and they shouldn't act as if it is fact. Well I guess I'm writing to you because their broadcast today, just really disturbed me. I have been around gays all my life, I even have gay family members and gay friends. I've known them most of my life and I don't believe that they should be treated any different just because they prefer something different than you or me. No one in their right mind would "choose" to be gay in this day and age, when we still have all this prejudice in this country. I think if they really knew what they were saying, they would realize that it's a load of crap. In my opinion they are living in a fantasy world, in what they want to be and in a perfect world, that probably would be possible, but as we know this isn't anywhere near a perfect world. NO ONE is perfect and being gay does not mean that you are any less imperfect than anyone else. I'm sure environment does play a role BUT, once you are gay, once you're gender has taken form, you cant just change that. It's the same for gender-reconstruction surgery, more commonly known as "a sex change". You can change your outward appearance all you want, but you will ALWAYS be what you were meant to be, what you were born. Emotional feelings, your emotions for everyday things, for people, or whatever, will always take preference over physical appearance. Your natural instincts and feelings, will always be stronger then anything you could ever do to your outward appearance. That camp may have been able to tamper with and change that young man's outward appearance, how he acts and goes about his daily life, but I can almost guarantee that it could not and did not change what he was meant to be and who he is, a gay man and there is nothing wrong with that.

Thank You for your time,

Sincerely,

Kate Ireson
