Due to bad timing and sporadic unpredictable work demands, I didn't successfully manage to do much socializing, but it was an okay weekend all in all. Sorry to everyone I'd hoped to get together with, but failed. Weekend highlights

Irving Park Road already does a bit of a dipsy-doodle around the south edge of O'Hare Airport... I'm wondering just how difficult it would be to straighten it out and just make that stretch go underground.
The North Branch Trail is a nice ride. My mom lives near the south end of that trail and the last time I brought my bike up I rode all the way to the north end of the red line. I'd been meaning to do the black loop as well but I was starting to get tired.
I have a hard time imagining a public road with no controlled access being allowed to go under a working runway, though, considering the level of paranoia out there regarding commercial aviation as a potential terrorist target. Regardless, it would be pretty expensive. I'm guessing they're going to straighten out the western end of that dip and reroute Irving to run parallel to the Milwaukee Road railroad tracks east of York.
Didn't know your mom was so close to my neck of the woods. The NBT is definitely nice, and is an interesting place to see wildlife if you're riding close to dusk or dawn. Next time you find yourself on the trail the black loop is worth doing if you get the chance, as it provides access to the Chicago Botanic Gardens at the north end, which is a nice place for a break.
Yeah.. I suppose the tunnel would be a potential terrorist target.
Nonetheless I know somewhere there is a ramp where airplanes taxi over a highway. My idea was based loosely on that situation.
And yes, mom lives just off of Milwaukee Ave between Devon and Touhy.
About a year ago when I rode that trail I had seen at least a half dozen deer -- I had to be careful not to hit one (or be hit by one) during one stretch.

Amen! And, the cake is probably a lie, anyway. (Please don't tell me you didn't see that one coming.)
