You know, selfishness is a very interesting topic to me. I consider myself to be a very selfish person, because everything I do is for my own benefit. BUT I have to admit, that because I hate making people feel bad or causing people pain, even when I do nice things that look altruistic, I am doing them for selfish reasons. OR when I do something nice, say pay for someone else's dinner. In reality, I am still being selfish, because it makes me happy to see someone that I like happy, too.

And in truth, everyone is selfish in this way. You can bet all your money that if something looks like a sacrifice, it's being done because the alternative hurts more.

SO, is selfishness a virtue or a vice?

Actually, I think it can be both. It can at times be a virtue, but so often the balance one needs for it to be a virtue is not easily reached.

On a complete different subject, but regarding your own recent post, when I get settled into my house (we're moving this month) you should come to town to visit with Nikki/Gwyneth and I, and by visit, I mean come and veg and be 'selfish' for a while :)

I'm too tired and exhausted in the brainmeats to give this thoughtful post a suitable reply, but wanted you to know I enjoyed it. And I miss hearing your thoughts on things.
