On body image

Aug 05, 2010 07:50

So I've been doing a bit of contemplation on this, last night and this morning. And I realise how much societal norms shit me when it comes to body image and self perception ( Read more... )

Does it take to change a lightbulb?

It doesn't matter because they are never going to use the light to see in any case.

I've known you for a little over a week and I agree with your friends who have know you for years.

I am thinking of starting a drive by business. I'll drive past people and scream things like "YOU WRITE AWESOMELY AND FINISH THAT GODDAMNED BOOK!"

or

"YOU'VE LOST HEAPS OF WEIGHT, WELL DONE AND YOU LOOK AWESOME!"

and one for Linstar:

"YOU ORGANIZE REALLY WELL AND YOU NEED TO TAKE A BREAK!"

Bwahahahahahahaha

Aww man, you missed out my other comedy gold.
*sighs*

:-)

And, um, you can totally delete that "for a bigger person," from this line: I carry my weight well and that for a bigger person, I am quite sexy! because you are quite sexy full stop. None that that categorization shit, thank you.
:D

For a bigger person, I write well.
For a bigger person, I fart like a tuba.
For a bigger person, I .... do perfectly fine as a human being, thank you.

:D

Tee heehee! Tuba!

Yep. Idiots are idiots. And parts of ourselves are idiots too. You just need to learn how to not listen to them.
Ta da! There's your million dollar answer.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I didn't say it quite like that - I certainly didn't mean to anyway. I guess what I meant to say was that Linda is dead sexy, and that would probably surprise _some_ people because they don't think larger people can be sexy. But what the hell do they know?

TBH, I'm willing to bet Linstar ... paraphrased unwisely... when she wrote this post.

Your friends don't love you despite your size. They love you, and your size has nothing to do with it one way or the other, the relevant factor is your awesomeness.

^^^ All of the above.

You're sexy brilliant, wonderful and kinda really need to learn how to tell people to "bugger off" when they ask you for something. =D

With idiots like that I always comfort myself with such thoughts as, "Why are they out driving through the night and not snuggled up to some cuddly wench of their own? Probably because any woman's too much woman for them to handle."
:D

Thank you! I don't think people notice me as much given some of the incredibly shiny people I hang out with! :) So thank you!

I think you are beautiful, physically and on the inside too. I'm not one to really notice how people look in general (thanks to yaers of carefully avoiding eye contact, even now that I can make eye contact, it's like I just don't judge people on what I *see*) but you are beautiful Linda.

It is horrible when people say 'look how fat you are!' I get it too sometimes and I think 'really? That's all I am to you?' And it makes it difficult to listen to my friends and family, because... it is crushing to be judged so heartlessly by strangers. To have a reminder that these compassionless, thoughtless people exist in, and even influence our world, no matter how much we're loved. I don't think it's that we ignore the opinions of our loved ones by feeling hurt by them, or even believing them, I think it's that these awful people do live in our world. They work with us, they serve us meals, they drive alongside of us, and we can't not be in a world with these people. And that is very hurtful. Because people who would judge others thoughtlessly ( ... )

Oh, I totally get what you're saying with that feeling ashamed, and then feeling ashamed of feeling ashamed! Society has us well trained :-) Despite what we think on the surface, our subconscious has been well trained to feel how society says we should :-( It sucks.
