Yes, there was a magnitude 6 earthquake offshore from Chiba last night. We are down to the southwest in Hakone, and while it was a literal kick in the pants (as we are staying at a traditional sleep-on-the-floor Japanese hotel and had just gone to bed), we are fine. Suppose it's to be expected even now... I'm sure if I was there it would remind me a lot of the Nisqually quake in 2001 - earthquakes are always scary... but glad you guys are okay :)

A ginormous earthquake like they had is expected to have a bunch of aftershocks, yeah. We don't really hear about it usually, but aftershocks can go on for months! But also, earthquakes are really to be expected in Japan, as it's one of the most seismically-active places in the world. Their buildings are designed to withstand much stronger quakes than what we felt!

Funny story - I was up in Bellingham during the Nisqually quake. It was barely anything by the time it got up there, but it was enough to shake my bed. Since I was half asleep (lol college) I thought my roommate was shaking my bed! (Also, my grandparents lived practically on the epicenter - all it did was skew a few of their pictures...)
