I was more than apprehensive given the shitty time I had that year, but it was Nick's 30th birthday and that only comes around once so I decided to go. Paul came too, so that was a much added bonus. As far as the loop is concerned, I'm a friend of convenience. Sure, people will say hi and make small talk, but really only if it's in a time that suits them. The moment something better comes along I'm all but forgotten. From what I've heard, it's mostly perpetuated by one or two people, hence why I made the kool-aid reference. Whether or not it has any truth to it I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it was.

And yes, I agree a lot of people are like that. I call those guys "social climbers." I remember in grade school I'd be one of the first people to greet the new kid but as soon as someone 'better' came along I was dropped. Eh, whatever. At least you're not being phased by it.
As I see it, if you got your core group, it's all good. :D

Haha social climbers. I like that term. I really shouldn't have lumped everyone into that category since there are a select few that do make a point and honestly want to talk to me, but there are others that are blatantly obvious about it.
