It’s hard and painful for someone to hide a feeling for a long time. Having a secret. This was something John Connor, present or future, couldn’t deny. What he - or any of them - didn’t know that it wasn’t that easier for Cameron, neither. However the fusion between the human and the machine, Allison or Cameron, happened; it made her different. Hell, she’s said she is not just any machine. She’s special.

They just didn’t know how much.

Future John knew and it was one of the reasons he sent her back, it was the only way for them to be together. He was one of the reasons Cameron tried for so long to hide her human feelings and reactions. Whoever she was, Allison or Cameron, she had come into the terms that now they were both one. Cameron was her alias, being the Terminator to look after John was her mission. That’s why they only see her as a machine.

Metal.

She hated that. At first, she didn’t mind. Again, it was something she had to go through to complete her goal. But with time, she would get frustrated whenever anyone - especially Derek - would call her like that. Like she is nothing, like she is only a lattice of positive ions surrounded by a cloud of delocalized electrons. She often looked at Derek or Sarah thinking how they would go through all this without her or her help. No acknowledgement, no gratitude or appreciation. Aren't these human feelings? She couldn't ask anyone to explain her.

All she had was John. He was her constant, present and future, she could count on him. But she felt she was failing him. Her glitch, she promised herself it would be the last time she would show John her feelings; she should have let him deactivate her. No database on her reach explained her why she begged John to save her, when letting her go was the right thing to do.

It was all happening again. Keeping Riley away, knowing she was a risk but not killing her because John asked her not to. Her feelings were showing again and it had become harder for her to hide them. No matter how many times she analyzed what would be better for her to do, even using their relationship’s encrypted data. All the graphics, probabilities, statistics told her that telling John was the best thing she could do.

But she still hesitated. That’s why she gave him the remote detonator. Because if anyone knew what was truly best for her, that person would be John.
