Christ alive, has it been a long time since I really expressed myself in words. I had meant to get to this earlier, but life gets in the way of these things.

So. What is life at this point? Life is having a quarter-life crisis. Life is finally sort of starting to figure out who I am. Life is realizing that I should stop dreaming and wishing for ( Read more... )

It's excellent to hear that you're being proactive about your situation with work and life generally!

If you are waking up more often than not wondering if it's for you, then you may need to trust your gut instinct...

Although having said that, it's amazing what humans can become accustomed to, as part of their vocation, maybe if you did feel all the emotions of the latest bomb going off, you couldn't do your job?

About the teaching, I dabbled with TEFL in my mid-twenties too and you can be accepted abroad without teaching experience, I have a friend who spent the best part of 3 years in South Korea with no teaching experience prior to that, so shop about for locations maybe? Or work somewhere first and use the experience to reach Japan later?

Nah, I'm specifically interested in Japan. Maybe I'll country-hop eventually, but for now I want to focus on one place.

I respect that there are people out there who can report the news without reacting to what's happening, but that's not a path I want to put myself on. The day I stop feeling empathy is not one I want to wake up for, especially if it's caused by work.

Fair enough, I hope you find a way to make that happen. As you're a journo, with a little research, you'll be able to find a way in.

I completely agree, this makes some of the people who report the news utter monsters, which can't be a good thing. Part of the impact of the news is the emotional reaction it needs to draw in people watching, if the person presenting is completely dispassionate about what they are doing, how can the reporter really connect with the humans reading/watching?
