Read The Setting The series begins with ... Character Personality:
Leo fills out the unthankful position of acting as the voice of reason and being Ryoki’s BFF and morality pet. He tends to be the one who warns the others of the gang to consider the consequences of their actions and is a damn fine friend to have, one who’s even willing to let himself get dragged to hell while he attempts to keep his best friend from going down there (too bad that’s exactly what happens in the end).
He likes to show off as cool and aloof when he’s with his friends, often cracking smart aleck jokes or otherwise commenting on everybody’s actions ironically. (A good example would be when the gang’s name is introduced and Leo ruins Ryoki’s badass announcement of their name by promptly starting to laugh about it behind him. An example for him being ironic would be his commenting on not liking foreigners even though he himself is blond and naturally heavily-tanned, thus fitting the visual idea of a foreigner perfectly.) If Ryoki is the hero of the gang then Leo is something like the big brother of everyone. He gets teased a lot, getting often referred to as ‘longhair’ or ‘the black one’ but it’s always in good spirits and no one doubts his authority when it comes down to it.
Ironically, Leo seems to be only able to be cool when he is with others: whenever we see him doing something on his own he fails spectacularly at it. In such cases Leo is usually rather slow and a bit shy. Example? His attempts to lose his virginity: the girl he likes gets it on with Ryoki before turning into a bloody mess in said BFF’s bathroom, traumatizing the poor guy for life. His attempt to score with Yukito ends with him getting kicked between the legs and a lecture on how you only should do something like this with your special one and the last attempt ends up with Leo unwittingly picking up a MALE street whore (a.k.a. Haru) who later proceeds to blackmail him into helping him join the gang.
The thing that sets Leo really off from the rest of his friends isn’t the dark color of his skin or his virginity, though. The first difference is that Leo quit taking Fire Candy shortly before the series begins, jokingly explaining his switching to chain-smoking with a “Doctor said to stop” although the actual reason is that he simply dislikes the effects the drug has on people. Not the “take it and die” part, he’s rationally cool with that as he’s cool with being half-lion, but the part that makes one lose all restraints. Which would be the second difference: Even though Leo enjoys violence and battles, he still thinks that there’s a border that shouldn’t be crossed (being human versus a raging beast). Going past this limit both disgusts and frightens him - he’s repeatedly shown being devastated at how violent Ryoki has become and when he brutally kills that other guy it ruins his life just as much as it did his victim’s.
Summed up, Leo is a considerate guy with lots of morality issues, who wholeheartedly cares for his friends but can also be incredibly violent.
Character Abilities:
As a Half:
Natural Skills: Leo has several slight advantages compared to your standard human. Like all Halfs, his reflexes are reasonably* faster and his senses somewhat sharper than an ordinary human’s would be and he is able to heal smaller injuries like scratches and light burns by simply licking them (it’s a more potent form of animals licking their wounds to clean them and make them heal faster). Being half-lion, Leo also possesses several more or less cat-specific traits, like a rougher than normal tongue, enhanced night-vision, an extra-good sense of hearing and the ability to easily perform standing jumps that cover twice his own height. His lion heritage also left him with a strength that allows him to break the bones of his opponents when he lands a good hit. Additionally, he tends to get a bit loud at times (a lion’s roar can carry up to five miles under the right circumstances - Leo’s not quite THAT bad, but when he’s pissed or freaks, you usually hear it).
*it’s more of the level of good athletes than anywhere near super-human level.
Skills:
Being the second-in-command of a street gang of Halfs (and one human), Leo is a capable street-fighter and racer. The racing in Fire Candy is done with enhanced roller-blades. (Think Air Gear with laws of physics and no ‘rule of cool’.)
Character-wise:
Leo’s character is strong in a way. He is devoted his friends to the point where he will willingly risk his own life for them, but he will also do things they might not like if he thinks that it’s for their best. During their nightly raids, it is usually him who acts as the voice of reason and who won’t let his instincts get the better of him. His cynical-realistic view of the world also keeps him from getting provoked easily and making obvious mistakes. He also quit the highly-addictive Fire Candy on his own.
Character Weaknesses: Basically, the Achilles heel of your character. This can include anything from a phobia of being hit by large trucks, to character flaws, to a horrible bee allergy. This also includes psychological weaknesses, fears, traumatic events, and personality traits. One to two in depth and well written paragraphs are a minimum. Lol, sorry for the Tl;Dr!
As a Half :
As the great Spiderman said, with great power comes great weakness and- Wait, he didn’t say that? Ok, whatever. In any case, Leo’s feline heritage doesn’t only bring advantages. In other words: Leo hears good. Too good. He has been shown passing out from the loud music while trying to cross the floor of a night-club before, but pretty much any overly loud or high-pitched noise will do the trick and make him first sick and then faint.
Another Half-typical weakness is his high inclination to violence that finally amounts to bouts of berserk-like frenzy - in such a stage Leo will attack his opponent without reason and won’t stop until somebody dies. This part of him disgusts Leo to a point where will get either terrified or literally sick when he witnesses others reveling in their brutality too much. Unlike his friends, he can’t bring himself to enjoy the ever-increasing amount of blood and the violence the gang daily engages in- a thing that rapidly evolves into an issue that eventually breaks his back.
Racism:
Leo has grown up being constantly faced with the worst kinds of racism coming from the ‘real, pureblood’ humans towards him. While he knows that not all humans are like that (they have one in the gang and they’re getting along pretty well), he can’t help but feel that no good comes from them and has developed a strong general aversion and distrust against them.
Appearance:
Being a tube-bred hybrid between human and a lion reflects in Leo’s
appearance. While it is not terribly obvious, his eyes are still cat-like, his ears slightly pointy and he has next to his raw tongue also small fangs - all tell-tale signs in his world. The natural markings on his face further identify him as a “Big Cat” (as in Lion, Tiger, Panther,..) -type of Half. While Leo doesn’t mind the way he looks, he is aware of it setting him apart from the normal humans and he will be somewhat defensively-aggressive about it.
Girls & Temper:
Leo wants to lose his virginity and a girlfriend really, really much. Together with his notorious bad luck, his occasional tendency to be a bit blond at times and him being easily intimidated in certain regards (esp. sex) this leaves him as an easy prey and a bit of a romantic derp for the fair gender. It is also the reason why he has grown to dislike traps a lot.
Traumas (Humanity & Trust):
Leo is well-aware that humans will never be willing to recognize him or any other Half as anything but disgusting subhuman abominations that are to be used (usual in the context of breeding-stock or cheap whores) and then gotten rid off on nice days. Having realized that any pleas for his humanity will be ignored as a kid, Leo has adapted a rather grim outlook on the issue, claiming himself a lion rather than a human but also thinking that it is one’s actions that make one human rather than one’s blood. Because of this, he is very concerned with the way he and the people around him act - losing oneself in mindless bloodlust or even killing somebody is an absolute ‘no-go’ for him. Thanks to this his going berserk and gleefully murdering somebody is more than devastating to him. Leo can’t forgive himself for losing his mind and massacring another human nor can he come o terms with the fact that he actually enjoyed it while it happened. It is something that utterly goes against his conception of himself. It shatters his carefully constructed defenses and the very idea of his identity, leaving him on the level the humans keep insisting he is at - not a human, but a mad beast that ought to be shot before it infects anybody else.
The matter gets worsened by the fact that while he did his best to keep his friends, especially Ryoki, from falling into this trap, they did not do the same for him. On the contrary, Ryoki and Haru even cheered him on, joking about how ‘hot’ it was getting them. In Leo’s mind this equals them not only letting him blindly run into the knife without a word of warning - they pushed him and cheered when he took the fall.
This all results in a situation where Leo is caught being unable to put his trust into anything: not into a world that that spits in his face, not into any friends, not even into himself.
[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Meister:
Because Haru’s mun talked me into apping and his canonmate is already the worst weapon ever.
Despite his seemingly quick temper at times Leo is able to keep a calm head during battles in most conditions, a quality that would be important for a Meister - he knows how to recognize and gauge risks and wouldn’t have any problems holding back or even running if it’s the best solution in the long run. Similarly, he is quite caring and devoted once he decides to trust somebody and wouldn’t have any problems putting the safety of his partner ahead of his/their ego. He also knows enough of street fighting and surviving on the streets to be able to fend for his own for to an extent.
On a psychological note, I think it would be better for him to be a Meister, as Leo has …issues with violence. On one hand, he enjoys and revels in it as much as the next Half, but on the other hand causing it would serve as a constant reminder of his trauma when he lost himself before - and killed another person, a fact that terrifies him to the bones. Due to this, he would be very guarded with who he lets close and trusting himself and all his violent potential to somebody other? There’s no way in heaven or hell he would do that again without being forced to it! I think this would be especially bad for him as a weapon (‘being used’), while, as a Meister, he can still feel that he has at least some level of control over the battle and how dire it gets.
Meister Ability:
Feral Soul - The meister takes on animalistic tendencies the more they become angry, becoming stronger, faster, and immune to damage at the cost of their self-control and resonance.
[ SOUL INFORMATION ]
Soul Description:
Wild, Loyal Damaged, Caring, Rational, Bitter, Loud.
Soul Appearance:
A big-ish sized lion-colored (a mix between yellow and brown) soul, with his characteristic marks around the eyes and hints of a beginning mane and a small lion’s tail. While it looks healthy, it also has parts where it seems to be ‘cracked’ and small particles of fire (representing the Fire Candy) are occasionally surrounding it (the more the more his emotions flare). Its expression is a world-wary frown that seems to hide whatever other emotions he might feel. If viewed, the vibe it gives off are “wild”, “reliable” and “hurt”. If one is especially good at soul gazing, the impression that it is forcibly kept from breaking or giving in to insanity may be caught as well.
