This is one of the most beautiful and poignant pieces of writing in existence in the English language...And one that too few read and understand. The Vixen and I were discussing this last night and I thought I'd post it.

accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

People have become totally complacent. They live, quite obliviously, in their own little worlds. As long as they can live their own little lives, they don't care what the government does as long as it doesn't affect THEM. "Give up this right? Well, they say it makes us safer. Give up THAT right? Well, we'd never do THAT anyway. They want a religious state? No problem, I'm already the right religion."

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.Sadly, it will take a "long train of abuses" to snap people out of their complacency. But by then it will be too little too late. It feels like the "guards for our future security" ( ... )
