Yeah, I think 2e has it's upside. I still don't own 3.5e books, and I'm just not up to speed on their version of the rules.

I call anything after 2nd 'medieval superheroes'. All that proficiency crap and 'talents' that are damn near supernatural...that even humans can get at higher levels. I personally feel they 'munchkin-ized' the game for the younger set.

AD&D is the ONLY game I've felt the newer rules have gone downhill.

Well, I can agree with that, 'cept for one thing. The rules are really set down for the heroes, not the average person in the fantasy world. These are the rules that the 'good guys' and 'bad guys' follow, not the common man.

Unfortunately, usually the perspective of the common man is lost to characters, because they have so many choices, options, talents and abilities. PC's are the best of the best, and like the 3 musketters, should be able to whip the average man-at-arms with one hand tied behind his back.

Now, these same rules actually apply to 2e too. There just aren't as many things for PC's that make them so far above the common man, it's silly.
