[ Godric's face appears on the screen and, for a moment, he looks a little confused. Then he sets it down, peering at the camera with slight nerves. He wasn't used to the technology of the future - give him swords and magic over these things any day. Still, he has things he needs to talk about, so he would have to learn to adapt. ]

I would like to ( Read more... )

Most of the worlds I've been to don't have that many magic users if any at all.

So magic is something new to you? Do you find it at all... Frightening?

New to me?

[He grins and waves his hand--Tada! One harmless serpent made of water!]

I can't exactly find things frightening to be totally honest.

[ Godric smiles, looking at the serpent fondly. ]

I see that the limited magic users in your world are not anything of a threat to you. To be unafraid is a good thing; courage is a great strength.

[ Naoki pauses briefly, then... smiles a little. Heh. ]

... I was just asking something similar the other day. 'Magic' is a really broad term, though, isn't it? I can use it myself, but I think it might be different than what you know.

[ Okay he likes this topic SMILING A LOT, because magic is fun!! When he isn't using it to kill stuff, anyway. Plus all his bffs use it. ]

A few people I spoke to seemed to believe it wasn't real, or mentioned it functioned differently...

I have come to assume many here use magic of which I have never encountered. I thought it best to do what I could to learn - both for myself and my peers.

[ He smiles; an excited student is the best kind. ]

I can assure then that it is quite real - otherwise my school would be rather useless.

I can't say I could actually help you use it, but... I could tell you about what I can do?

[ Oh hold up. AWESOME. ]

... A school? Seriously? Back where I used to live before--um, that stuff happened, it didn't actually exist. A magic school must be really cool.

[ ajsdkjhglkdjhg okay you are so cool *A* ]

That would be most helpful, if you would not mind sharing.

[ He laughs softly, flicking the wand in his hand. Look, little birdies! ]

It is quite the achievement, and it took much time and effort. The benefits are worth the strain, however. It is a pleasure to see young people learn the art that is in their blood.

[ Hm... more magic to be learned about. Pinged! ]

Magic where I come from is a lost art. I'm afraid only a precious few know how to cast simple cantrips. The rest of humanity remains ignorant, skeptical at best.

I understand.

[ He pauses to think it over. Magic as a lost art? It was inconceiveable to him. ]

Do you think there are still those that can use magic - perhaps they hide their power?

Of course. As I've said, skeptics about. If one were to flaunt their abilities just so then one would draw much... unneeded attention to oneself.

[ Definitely not trying to point himself out as a magic user, nosirree! ]

Yes, I can understand the need for secrecy. It is much the same in my own world - humankind cannot easily accept something as otherworldly as magic no matter how familiar it is to us.

Someone I've spoken with kept insisting magic was science.

[ He pauses to think this over before he smiles gently. ]

Perhaps it is a kind of science. There is some... Aspects of the use of magic that could deem it so.

[ She frowns. ]

I suppose...but there are differences between the two.

Yes, most certainly. While I am no expert in either field the differences are marked and rather distinct.

Well, in my world, there's a few different types of magic.

There's my kind of "magic" -- we're not called "Magic Weapons" for nothing, I guess.

Then there's Lord Death's magic --- mostly used for communication or fighting.

And then there's the magic that Enchanters use -- mixing it in with soil using special gloves to create Golems.

And then there's witch's magic. In my world, that's dark or evil magic; they're the enemy.

[He pauses for a second, thinking.]

Can't really think of anything else. Except for animal magic. I lived with a cat that could use magic like a witch, but she was a good per--- er, cat.

[ Godric nods his head, listening intently. This is all very intersting to him - where he's from there is just magic. ]

And how does one learn such magic? Are you born with it, or can it be taught?

[video] mauvesympathy February 1 2011, 15:36:40 UTC
Most of it, you're just born with. [Shrug.]

I think only Enchanting can be taught, actually.

... Well, I mean, you can make yourself into a Weapon, but that entails killing humans and becoming enemy number one.

I see. That is much like my own land - you are born with the power to use magic, and it cannot be taught.

[ He frowns a little. Dark magic like that - he didn't want to dwell on it. ]

Thank you for sharing this with me. It is most helpful.
