Learning fandom quirks

First: I apologize to shiv5468 for assuming she did what she wouldn't and didn't do. I should have asked her before taking public action (regardless of how small an audience I have) based on my own jumping to concusions ( Read more... )

I'm glad I'm still on your list. :-) I don't see what you did was wrong. Perhaps my attitude is wrong, but I cut a lot of slack to what's written in private LJs. I consider my LJ to be my cyber-home. At my real home, I wear shorts and T-shirts an awful lot. As I sleep in them... well, some days don't pay to get dressed. :-) If you come to my home, you'll have to put up with me dressing comfortably, drinking my Diet Pepsi constantly and smoking (unless you're allergic or have health issues, in which case, I will try my hardest to refrain). I do this because it is my home. In my LJ, I will sometimes post opinions or rants simply because it is my home.

But I do enjoy your reviews, so I'm glad I'll be able to keep on reading them.

I haven't removed anybody. I intend to remove myself from "public" eye. Unless I have something really nice to say. It will be a relief, really, because I could not not think that my notes about the fics might be read by somebody. I wasn't really free to say what I meant and I did not like what I wrote. Half-baked, half-true, half-life. And still a chance that someone may take offense.

I envy you on an awful lot of shorts and T-shirts. You must be enjoying abundance of warm weather. I smoke (in one room only, incidentally the one with my desktop) in very warm clothes and wool house-boots at least eight months a year.

You'll be able to keep reading my reviews only if I figure out how to make the custom filter to include you only. You might change your mind then, though. For spoilers if not for unguarded frankness.

Well, I must have missed something. I often look to see what you say about a story. I don't have much time to read for pleasure these days, and a heads up is always welcome for those times when I do.

I can understand that some people don't like critique for their stories, but I guess nobody can tell you what to put on your lj. As far as I've seen, you've been honest about your thoughts on stories, quite brutally at times, but it's still your lj. I don't know if you went commenting someplace else or something, so I can't really say.

You can click on your post when you create one and fix it so that the post is private or so that only people on your friends list can see what you've written. You can even click to create a filter where specific people on your friends list can see them only. If you're afraid to offend someone now, you might want to just post so that your friend's list can see only. It's hard to say what you really think about something while the author may be reading, though, so I can understand your feelings on that.

I am quite new to Live Journal and have yet not had real problems, but I have been ten years on the Internet and have had my share of fights. I don't mind fights too much, I am a big girl most of the time, but they are rarely pleasant, always time-consuming and tend to scare off some decent people in the audience.

I am glad that you liked my reviews and I understand the filtering choices. But, LJ friends aren't really friends. Those I have added mostly don't know that they are on my flist. My initial crop of friends are authors that I liked to read, at least once seriously. I had to start somewhere. Now, it obviously does not mean that these people will welcome reading my brutal remarks about their own or their friends' stories, and it will happen sooner or later. I realize that I am free to write what I want and you are free to unfriend me if you don't like it, but I am a stranger in a strange land and it might be a good idea to read more than I write for a while.

Well, adding people to your journal is the first step to making "friends" online. What your reason for adding is up to you. I often friend everyone who friends me and friend others that I recognize from reviews or writing. I've not unfriended you, as you've not said anything offensive to me, but if you'd like me to, that's fine as well. I have thick skin most of the time.

I think some people tend to get upset more easily than others, and apparently, that's what's happened. You can't please everyone. I've tried. It doesn't work. :)

The "you" in my message was a generic you, a "one". I am far from unfriending anybody, least of all you who left me the very first comment. You can consider yourself furniture here for as long as you feel comfortable.

I have been browsing the fandom (occasionally getting portkeyed to strange places thoroughly outside my experience) and getting to know my way around. I've even read a dozen or so fics from other HP ships. I am still watching in disbelief how much more slash than het there is in fan fiction.
