I have, actually. Mostly at the dentist's. But, it is the taste of copper that boggles me. How the hell does it taste? How do you know that blood tastes like copper if you've never tasted copper. If you have -- please tell me in what form so I can taste it too.
Iron or copper or any metal... ever eaten it? I don't have metallic taste in my experience. I've just licked a knife to see what it's like (as if I don't taste spoons and forks every day). No special taste.
It's not fanfic--I've seen this often in fiction. I've tasted my own blood for similar reasons as others, sucking on a paper cut, the dentist, and it does have a metallic taste--like the taste of a penny :-) (which is partly, and was once almost entirely, copper)
Penny is the answer, it seems. I must be forgetting my childhood or the coins at my disposal at that time did not have a memorable taste. I don't remember tasting coins, but I must have, if that is what children commonly do. Thank you for the explanation.
