My mother moved in with me at one point, and she griped often about how small her bedroom was. I told her if she wanted to pay to have it made larger, have at it! She didn't say much after that. : ) But I have to add that my mother wasn't ever rude to me about it. She just lamented that she no longer had the big house that she had before. Maybe your mom is feeling the same?
You might suggest to your mum that if she wants better furnishings, she can buy them.
I agree with Prim.. maybe your mother is feeling sad to be losing her home, especially if she doesn't usually say unkind things.. It's not easy living with someone else. But it was certainly a hurtful remark, especially when you've worked so hard to get the place looking nice. I would have felt inclined to retaliate if she'd said it to me, with something like.. 'well, you don't have to stay here if you're uncomfortable'.. but that would probably have caused more upset.. I think you responded very reasonably under the circumstances. I hope things will be resolved before long... and your toothache/abscess heals soon!
Aw, I'm sorry. After all the work you done to the flat, I understand you got upset by the remark. Maybe she didn't mean it to sound so harsh ? I hope you can work things out and I hope your toothache will be gone soon ! ((hugs))
I think she's a bit frustrated and disappointed about her own situation. Nothing to do with you at all but I'm sorry she hurt you. It's your place and you love it and don't forget that. :) I hope she's realised she cocked up and has apologised. *hugs*
Ah, you guys are the coolest! Thanks for your words of comfort and for being understanding. I was more upset yesterday than I realised as I was really moody at work today (unlike me!). But I am beginning to settle down now
