It occurred to me recently just how many people, things, and activities in my life begin with the letters A, B, or C.
Amber - my name (and my last name begins with “C”)
aluragayle - my former roommate and best friend (whose real first name also begins with the letter “A” and last name begins with the letter “B”)
“A” - the first initial of a more recent friend and also the one that is teaching me...
Archery - an activity/hobby I’ve recently taken up
Art - something I used to do, once upon a time, but haven’t really done since college...although old evidence of it is scattered in various corners around the house in the form of old canvases - some finished, some not
Arrows - used in archery, I bought my first ones yesterday
Allergies - I was lucky enough to never really have them growing up, but they decided to fix that with a vengeance a couple of years ago or so
Anchor (anchor point) - one of the new terms I’ve learned and a point I am still working on finding...in essence, it is the point on an archers face where their hand will touch when at full-draw and are ready to shoot
Bow (recurve) - also used in archery and, like the arrows, bought my first one yesterday...I still need to figure out a name for it
“B” - the first letter of the name my father goes by most often (also the first letter of his middle name)
Books - my oldest friends and the ones I retreat to most often when I need to escape...I have surely sunk a not so small fortune into them over the years
Bibliophile - one of the labels that will most definitely apply to me and that I will claim with pride (see also “Books”)
Birds - we had what seemed like a colder and wetter winter this year than usual so started putting out a little more food for the birds than usual...I’ve rediscovered the joy of sitting in the chair by the window and watching their antics (see also “Cold”)
Blankets (throw) - I seem to collect them, in a way and have more than a few probably...most the cats have taken over but there are a couple that live on the chair and that I curl up in occasionally
Batteries - why do so many things need them and why do they run out so quickly? Especially why are they always ‘devoid of activity,’ as dad likes to say, when you need them?
Bodice - I have decided to try making a new one since my old one no longer fits, to say the least, and I am intending to make it back to KCRF this year
Bloomers - another piece of garb that I need to re-make for faire
Box (cardboard) - since I was advised by “A” that the arrows that I bought yesterday would probably bounce off of the target I also bought until it had been ‘softened up’ a bit, bought a cardboard box while at the store earlier...it served its purpose, but I’m going to need to either cut it down along one side or find one with better dimensions because this one is chewing through the fletchings on a couple of arrows
Chemise - in this case another word for shirt rather than negligée, specifically one to be worn underneath a bodice and like the bodice, I need to make another one (see also “Bodice” and “Bloomers”)
Camera - typically the thing I need batteries for but they’re dead so I wind up having to use my phone...I really need to fix that (see also “Batteries”)
Cats (house & feral) - my second oldest category of friends, I currently have three that reside only in the house and feed three others that claim the house and woods around it as their territory...while the two females have been spayed and are as wild as the hills, the tom remains un-neutered but used to be someone’s pet, as friendly as he is. I’m inclined to keep him un-neutered as long as he’s outside so that he’s more inclined to defend the territory against other, less friendly and mellow toms.
Cinnamon - aka Cinn, is my dog...although she lives with my parents after I came to the realization that I spend too little time at home to make her happy and wouldn’t be able to take her with me to where I spend most of my time, or so it seems - namely work
Computers - whether at work, at home, or hunkered down on a couch at the coffee shop, I usually spend entirely too much time in front of one...I know it’s not healthy but I swear I get withdrawls if I don’t get my daily allotment of low-level-radiation from the monitor’s glow
Car - I am currently on my second car, a Kia Soul, after my first car, a Kia Spectra, got rear-ended and subsequently totaled by the insurance company...for someone who started off frightened of driving, I discovered I actually kind of like it. I’ve had the new (and by new I mean 15 miles on the odometer when I test drove it, new) Soul for less than a year and already have more than 15K miles on him.
Cold - This winter has been strange, with our weather being even more weird than is stereotypical...there would be 40 degree drops in temperature between two times, 24 hours apart. At one point it was apparently colder here (and ‘here’ is Oklahoma, by the way) than it was in Alaska
Cooking & Cleaning - two things I’ve never been particularly adept at, I’m trying to be better about both...for what it’s worth, I seem to be having more success with the cooking than I am the cleaning, part
Contact (human) - for better or worse, good or ill, it isn’t something I’m particularly used to and usually makes me tense up, at least initially, even if I consciously have no intention to...there are only a very few people that that don’t cause that damn near reflexive reaction
Cursing - I’m not sure that I’d say that I do this a lot, but I do, at least occasionally, do it...consider this your fair warning
